Hi ALL,
I am new to the site, and this month will mark my one year anniversary since having my medtronic dual chamber pacemaker put in. I must say it has been quite the journey too. But lately I have been getting very lighted headed and dizzy to the point I have to LAY DOWN to regain myself. The last few days have been worse with the same symptoms along with nausea and a headache and just not feeling right. I was taking midodrine but that hasn't seemed to help. Anyone else ever have this problem? Any suggestions would be great! THANKS
Mari

I had similar problems and I ended up going to another doctor who performed a blood volume study. He told me later that I wouldn't have even needed the pm implant if they had treated that in the beginning. The tachy and brady is a symptom, not a diagnosis. You might be able to find out more info from this test. It cleared a lot of things up for me.
thanks

Dina,
My pacemakers is also set to fix this problem, this was one of the reason I got it, my heart rate was dropping dangerously low and I was passing out. I also at times get tachycardia. I too take bisoprolol, amlodopine, and the midodrine.
When I first had my pacemaker put in after months of testing and hesitation from my doctors because of my age, 27, the leads dislodged after about 6-7 weeks, I had to have it re-done. I am in complete heart block (congenital).
Ambers,
I don't ever recall having that test done, definitely something to look into. I will ask my doctor about it at my next visit, which should be soon as I will call first thing Monday morning to set up an appointment. Thank you.
Blood Pressure could also be the culprit...

Midodrine is supposed to help keep your bp up, but sometimes it's not enough. Have you checked your bp during these spells? Low bp can cause these symptoms even when the pm is keeping your pulse up.
Also, have you recently had a pm interrogation? sometimes they change something in the settings that they think won't make a difference but then you learn the hard way that it does.
In any event, it sounds like the symptoms warrant a discussion with your dr.
Good luck!
You know you're wired when...

I am just now 40 but have had these blackouts all my life. I am thrilled with the pacer and would do it all over again.

Sounds like Bradycardia symptoms. My pacemaker is fitted to stop this. I have Tachycardia too but that is controlled by Fleccanide and Bisoprolol. What was your problem when you had your pacemaker fitted last year? Maybe it needs adjusting, things can change. Go back and have a checkup.
