PM

Hi, I am new to the club, I had a bad week so far, on Monday I was told that I am scheduled for a PM in January, this sounds scary. I have also been sick with sinus infection since last Tuesday, yesterday I was diagnosed with Whoopingcough. Feels like all is falling apart. I would like to know what the recovery period is after the PM op.

recovery time

Usually the recovery time really isn't long, within a week the pain should be almost gone, and within 3 weeks you should be able to do normal everyday things again accept for 6-8 weeks you can't lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, you could pull a wire out. Hope everything goes well for you

Whooping Cough

The recovery time from a PM implant is a lot less than the recovery from Whooping Cough.

I've had both, about 60 yrs apart (1942 & 2003) I can assure you that the PM was a lot easier than the Whooping Cough,

How significant is Whooping Cough? Well, I was 4 yrs old when I had it pre-vaccination days & I still can remember the misery it caused me & my family. I don't recall much of anything else from that age.

It kills, especially the young. A bit OT, but this is a call for everyone to get this vaccination. Not only is it deadly for babies, it is highly contagious.

Forget the contentions about it overloading a baby's immune system - we are not babies & can handle it easily as adults w/o all the other immunizations required simultaneously for infants.

Our #2 Son warned us to get a booster shot before visiting him & his family, containing a new baby. Unfortunately, we were too old to get the shot, so he relented on that requirement.

Whooping Cough was nearly wiped out, but is having a resurgence due to relatively large numbers of people w/o the vaccination.

IAN: Would you comment on this topic? Don't know your opinions, but you are closer to the medical/drug field than a lot of us.

Whooping cough

My family and I all had vacinations as children back in SA. Seems like these are not compulsary in NZ where we live now. My family had to get booster shots this week and I am in isolation for 14 days. I hope to get my strength up before my PM op in January. Any suggestions on bulding immune system? Don I am happy to hear that the PM op is going to be much easier than all this coughing.

That the vaccination ran out of effectiveness on you by age 50.

All I remember is the coughing ripping my guts out - or at least feeling like it was going to. And that was 70 yrs ago!

I certainly wish you well in recovery - it is long & slow & not fun at all.

You talk about them not being compulsory in NZ - As I read the history in Wikipedia, I was close to the last cohort of Americans to NOT have the vaccine as an infant. They apparently started it in 1942 - the yr I had the disease - 6 yrs old. I can date my case by where I lived at the time & my grandmother always telling about me being so sick that we as a family were authorized more food rationing points for canned tomato juice during WW-II.

Apparently they have recommended boosters for teens & adults for many yrs, now, but somehow we have not gotten them.

So- you have highlighted a immunization issue that all of us should be aware of.
