Hi

Just looking for any advice. I had my pacemaker fitted 3 days ago. Im 41 years old , and following a blackout in March I have been having lots of tests. Heartblock was picked up and a reveal implant was fitted 15 October this year. Last Friday I had a further 6 blackouts over a 10 hour period. Managed to get some recordings on the reveal recorder. Went for a download on Monday afternoon at the hospital where we discovered my heart had stopped 30 - 40 seconds on at least 3 occasions. Wednesday morning I was having a pacemaker fitted. Feels pretty sore at the moment but already I have no more sensations of feeling faint. I do however really feel my heart beating strong sometimes. Tonight i noticed just starting to snooze on the settee in front of the tv and when I woke up my heart was beating very quickly, could feel it pounding in my neck, is this normal ? I also feel sickly in the morning is this normal, it wears off after a few hours :-/ Any comments appreciated . Thanks Mandy

Normal?

It is probably normal. I have learned for me at least, that normal usually ends up feeling a lot better than before.. Don't forget our symptoms develop over the course of years so normal is left behind. Your heart is probably adjusting to a new rate and strength / a Cardiologist would call it remodeling. JMO, but others with far more knowledge than will chime in hear soon.. Hang in there, at least now you're protected!

Hope that helps...

Medication changes ?

by Dina - 2012-11-25 01:11:07

Hi Woof, I have had my pm since 9th October and they have had to change my Beta Blocker to Bisoprolol 2.5mg because I had bad side effects with the Sotalol which caused me to have Bronchospasm very badly for 5 weeks. I am now on my old original tablet dose which I took for years before my pm. I have been getting a few light headed spells lately but nothing like the ones I had prior to the pm. I was then almost fainting and my heart was on pause every other beat. Now my pm keeps me safe kicking in when I drop below 60 but yesterday and this morning my beat was 126 even whilst in bed sleeping, I woke up feeling anxious because the heart was racing. I think as USMC states above we need to give our medication a chance to settle in so I am just monitoring all this and will phone the Cardiac aftercare nurse on Monday and have a chat. I may need a stronger dose of Bisoprolol now I have the pm to curb its revival rate as it seems it is not being kept inder control.
I think you have the same problem as me Woof and that is why you feel cickly in the morning due to the hypertension with the fast beats. I would speak to the cardiac team about it if you can as it is most likely just a need to tweek your medication and nothing to worry about with your pm.
If anyone else has any other suggestions for us, we would be very grateful.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my post. I am not on any medication, just the pacemaker at the moment ?

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
