is there any chance

Hi people
I'm 29 year old , had my first PM few days ago , is there any chance that I'll have to live a life without worries , only to change the batteries once in 7 years or better 10 years ... without any serious problem.... and get to 70 year old ......

I had mine put in at 48 and a 2nd one 54. I go about my life and do not think about having a pacemaker. Sometimes I have questions when things come up and you can always ask here. I only get mad when doing weights, I do not have the same range of motion. Everyone is very supportive here which helps ...you can ask any weird questions, no one judges ! Happy Holidays !

Congrats !!!

Hi Erin, I am also new to the PM life, 12 days postop, I share the same questions and concerns. Thanks Johng for your answer.

Hi!, Eni,
Having a life without worries is unlikely.
With, or without a PM. you can have a 'normal' life.
The PM. will help you with a specific cardiac problem, but any other health problems will come (and go) just as for any other person.
As for how long you can live......... Last weekend I was at a birthday party. The 'birthday boy' was 88 years young. He is on his third PM. and his new wife...(They're only married 4 years) has had her PM. for 9 years.

At 73 years old, I was about the youngest guy at the party, and my PM. is only 7 years in place.

Live long, and enjoy the rest of your life.

Johng
P.S. Do watch out for Drunk drivers........I've heard there is a lot of them about...... must be the season!

I'm New to This....

Hi everyone! I just had my 1st PM implanted 12/17/12 and so far am doing great. It's set at 70, and so far, so good. I've been told receiving it improved my quality of life immensely. My only concern is, will I be able to jog again? I started walking and jogging about two years ago and lost close to 50 lbs.. I'd love to be able to do it again, as i worry about gaining my weight back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Oh! And I'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

No such thing

Personally, with a pm, I don't believe I can have a truly worry-free life. I am conscious of the location of magnets, store security gates, and cars with open hoods and running engines. I always feel the pm more or less in my chest, and I often wonder when I'll need to replace it, how mammograms will be with a pm, how the healing process will go as I get older, especially if I get as old as my grandparents were before they died - 93 and 97. I guess I can take comfort in the fact that my 93-year-old grandpa also had a pm. I knew about, but never really noticed his pm when he was alive - can't recall him getting his battery replaced, etc. I kind of wish he were alive now so I could ask him about it. But I try to live life as normally as I can. I wear a towel over the pm site, and a wristband over my medic alert bracelet, and play volleyball. And for Joanna, jogging is fine too.

Thanks kermihiho!

How long have you had your pm? Yesterday I walked about 1/2 block up my street and my HR shot up to 102. I got so short of breath too. Do these symptoms subside after a while or is this something to be concerned about? I have a post-op appt. 12/31.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
