Young and worried :(

I'm 26 years old, and in the past year I've had two cardiac caths and ablations. One was for SVT and the other was a sinus node ablation that was to result in a pacemaker. The first ablation resulted in a massive clot that enveloped my entire thigh and unfortunately, the SA ablation went wrong also, and they ended up puncturing my heart, which led to pericarditus (blood around the heart). Due to this, the pacemaker was not implanted and I've been suffering ever since with irractic beats, fast heart rate, and slow heart rate. I switched docs and he diagnosed me w/ sick sinus syndrome. He wants to do a pacemaker, but wants to wait until my heart gets stronger, and while waiting, its getting much worse. I'm on a 30 day monitor, and I've been told I need another SA ablation before the pacemaker is put in. I'm so scared, since the last one went so terribly wrong, and I'm worried about the pacemaker, and any complications, being my luck with all this hasn't been too great. Can anyone give me advice, or words of encouragement? Is there an alternative?

The most important thing is don't give up!! You've had such bad luck already, I'd say you've already used up all your fair share. Getting a new dr was a good move, don't think I'd have much faith in the first one anymore.

Unfortunately the only thing that will speed up a slow heart is a pacemaker. Drugs won't fix it. It's not unheard of to show improvement over time after an ablation, but it's rare. You've already been through so much, this will probably be the easiest.

I got my first pm at your age. I'm 46 now and on my 4th pm. I feel great. The surgery was easier than I expected, and I came out of it feeling better than I expected.

Wishing you smooth sailing from here on out. If you want to chat or have questions about the surgery or recovery, don't be shy.

You know you're wired when...

You invested in the Energizer battery company.
