Hello everyone,
I was reading the recent posts and someone, I think Frank posted a comment that often those who went for months in marginal condition find some organs and even the brain need time to recover.
Thank you for saying that! It makes so much sense, it just had never occured to me! I would be one of those! I went for a couple of years in that state before I had a diagnosis. My symptoms started out as an annoyance but progressed to where I couldn't even walk into the supermarket without feeling winded and dizzy. It felt awful! I had completely given up exercise and had become pretty sedentary by the time I found out what I had going on (bradycardia and heartblock). It's been almost 8 weeks since I got my pacemaker and before the surgery I think a big part of me hoped that I would wake up feeling like a brand new person with bountiful energy and be able to start exercising pretty soon after, but of course, it hasn't been like that. I think I'm doing OK, but it just feels so much slower than I would have hoped for. I have recently started taking short walks everyday and I feel like I'm moving in slow motion and feel tired afterwards. I'm trying to make myself keep it up though and not get too down about it, but it's hard! That must be what's happening to me though. My whole body is just needing time to recover after being stuck for so long!
I was so scared before the surgery, and now I'm starting to feel excited for the first time in a long time about all the things I want this pacemaker to help me do!
Has anyone else had a similar experience with expectations and recovery or maybe having been in that bad place for a long time before surgery?
Thanks for all the support!

Walking

I needed a pm for a long time and my hr was down to 30bpm and would stop. It took me ages to recover. I would walk a bit further each day. When I reached my first kilometer I nearly sat down outside the farm gate and had a party!!!!
All the best

Thats the way I felt, as though my whole body had to adjust to the new HR and the sudden change in BP.
That also explains how some of us struggle to adjust and others bound through the whole process - I'm tough and that made me feel inadequate at times.
Good one!
Thanks
Shirley

It made a HUGE difference in my life. Once I got it, I was finally able to run, and ride my bike long distances.

it does take several months and taking very good care off yourself.. The body does need time and it does take time before you really see the results but it is well worth it. I think too many people think they will come out the hospital and be up and running within a week or two as you come out the hospital so quick... but thats not the case haha... I hope you start to get bettert every day and will be back on your feet in no time
