My primary physician prescribed Celexa because he thinks I have a lot of job related stress. I'm a little hesitant to take this medication because I have heard it has a lot of side effects.
Any feedback? Specially with someone with a pacemaker?

Hi Cora,
Celexa and it's generic counterpart is one of the drugs reported by the FDA that should not be given in doses greater than 40 mg.
Check out the "Search" menu located in the upper rate hd corner and enter "Celexa", you see some information regarding this med.
Hope you're feeling less stressed soon.

Are you depressed?

That's what Celexa is for! Sounds like your GP is wanting to use it for an off label situation.
As a PM host, the one side effect that disturbs me is the statement that at doses over 40 mg per day it has a high risk of elongated Q-T interval. You already have an electrical problem that you did not specify. If you are susceptible to Q-T interval problems, RUN, don't walk to another GP.
Pills are NOT the solution to every problem; pills w/o concurrent counseling are the solution to fewer problems.

after i came home from hospital and i recuperated i began thinking that i might die at night sleeping so i began checking my pulse all the time. i became a bit obsessed with this and my dr felt i was depressed. i was put on cipralex i think it was. anyway received counselling and the depression lifted and i was sleeping again so i dont take it anymore. was crying all the time as well. some workplaces are horrendous to work in now so it is important if you cant change the workplace look for a job with better working conditions. the hospital my husband wa s just in was the top ten employees in toronto for the last ten years. there is a great deal of money for research and the nurses are so funny and relaxed. the drs are as well. if you are not sleeping well i know this helped me to sleep and also with anxiety but of course it is only meant short term and it also did not have the side affects of celexa. as i mentioned before to-day in another post antidepressants are not addictive.jessie

I would be very hesitant re the side effects . Can you change your job or use other coping mechanisms rather than drugs ?
