1) If you have a PM can you go on a roller coaster?
2) What causes EMI? I had my PM check and the nurse there said that there were 350 episodes of EMI in the past year. I haven't felt any different in the past year. Is this cause for concern? Has anyone been told that during your PM check? I have to go back in 6 months to have it checked again.
This is a great support group for PM individuals and their families.

EMI

Thank you PJ and GoodDog. I have had my PM for 2 1/2 yrs.now and have never been told during my PM check that I had EMI until my last check up 5 months ago. This was also the first time that a tech did an ECG during my check. She couldn't give me dates when these happened. So I have been researching and monitoring my day to day activities to see where this interference could be from. I am a Reg. Nurse and there is automatic doors when we enter the hospital. We also have automatic doors when we go shopping. These two areas are the only ones that I can come up with that could possibly cause this interference.
I will have to check TheKnotguy for more information on EMI.
My next check up is in May. I will keep everyone updated on EMI so we can all learn. This is a great support group. Thanks again.
Roller coaster

Yes, as long as you are otherwise physically healthy, you can go on a roller coaster. I say "physically healthy", because you just need to have normal strength and stamina (no danger of passing-out). There is no reason a PM should keep you from enjoying it.
As far as EMI..........I assume you mean electromagnetic interference? If so, something has interfered with your PM 350 times. I have had that happen a few times and I wasn't aware either. So I'm not sure what to tell you. Your PM Tech should have given you dates and times so that you could try to associate them with where you were and/or what you were doing. You really need to ask them that question and they should explain.
If EMI means something other than electromagnetic interference, well then I am unable to help.
More thought

After giving it more thought I am thinking that all of those episodes of EMI are completely insignificant. It would be nice to know what is causing them at a rate of one/day, but since they haven't bothered you it really is no big deal.
I think that what frustrates me in situations like this is the Nurse/Pacer Tech. I suppose that they don't do it intentionally, but sometimes when they give us little bits of information (enough to concern us) without further explanation or follow-up, it seems really insensitive. I obviously don't know what she/he may have said, but my PM Tech has done that to me. My point is that she caused me a great deal of worry over nothing on several occasions.
I do think that some of them really need some sensitivity training.
In any case.............not to worry.

Something Smells Here

I have had my PM for 3 1/2 years and never have had an indication in my PM recording of an "EMI" event. My PM tech says it would leave and "artifact" in the record. I worked in a nuclear power generating station around more "EMI" than most people would be exposed to in their lifetime and never had an event recorded in over two years of exposure after having my PM implanted.
Something sounds fishy about your nurse saying this. Either they have a different interpretation of what 'EMI" (Electro Magnetic Interference) is, or you are being unusually exposed to something in your environment. I agree with GoodDog, do some homework and look at your surroundings. I have posted several times about what I have been exposed to, so feel free to search my postings/comments. "TheKnotguy" has posted some good stuff also.
If you come up with something unusual, be sure to post it so we can all learn.
Good Luck. PJ
