mamogram

Has any of the women out there with a PM ever had a mamogram? Is it painful to have one with all that pressure and pulling they do? Any suggestions/thoughts etc. would be appreciated.

I have had a couple mammograms and there was no problem at all. She may take an extra film w/o pacemaker...depending on radiologist/tech.

Just make sure you let the tech know you have a pacemaker now. You don't want them to squeeze too much in that area....ouch! Sometimes, they will take some extra side shots so they can see behind the PM.

My mamo tech is wonderful ! She was on vacation one year (I ask for her only), they told me she would be there, to my surprise she was not. Anyway, the other tech did not seem as careful. My great tech places her hand where my pacemaker is as puts the plate down. Just keep reminding the tech you have a pacemaker, sometimes you have to be vocal !

I've had several. My pm is submammary so they did a gentle scan first to see where the pm and leads are, then while looking at that, they did the others. It didn't hurt. I go to the same place every time and it's all digital, so now they have it all at their fingertips.

Thanks

I just had my first mammo after my pm implant.
Make sure they know you have a pm ... My EP told me to wait at least 4 to 5 months before my mammo and that's what I did. It went fine.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
