Listening today to XM Radio. Electrophysiologist from NYU Langone medical center said that medical center has the protocol to perform MRI's on non MRI-approved pace makers and leads and is in the process of being FDA approved.. They also perform laser assisted lead extractions!!

This is getting more common, more so in Europe than the US, with excellent results. Very exciting!

Great News!

I'm glad to hear that! Not being able to have an MRI is a huge big deal as we all get older. I had knee surgery a few months ago, and the doctor did not do an MRI before the operation. The results were OK, but probably would have been better if the doctor had another tool to use.

Sorry, I did not pick up on the name of the electrophysiologist. However, the cardiologist who moderates this program every week from the lobby of Langone Medical Center is Dr Feit. If you contact him, he could give you the information you need. Also, their electrophysiology Department should be able to help you. I hope you don't need any leads extracted--sometimes they just put a new one in and leave the old one in.

Thanks for this information. Do you happen to recall the name of the NYU Langone electrophysiologist who spoke on this topic? I had my pacemaker done at NYU Langone and there was no mention of this during my last check up. Thank you.
