Intermittent FMALA

After 4 weeks of being in CHB after AVNRT ablation we scheduled the Pacemaker to be placed October 12th. I have been having issues with my FMLA not giving me intermittent coverage due to the physician stating he can not predict a cardiac event but very possible. They want him to put a frequency and duration of the events however how can he predict this. Anyways after him revising the papers 3 different times and still not clearing me for this I just gave up and am sticking through it but am nervous for post pacer placement. They advised me to have the office fill out new forms and I want to be sure they are done right this time. I know i'll be off work for a week and restrictions for the next 5 however should I be sure they fill out for intermittent section also. How long does it take before you feel back up to par. I know i'll be sore and I believe I can handle that but going back to work full time after 1 week makes me a little nervous. I'm afraid I may not be able to handle it and want to be sure if I have to leave early or what not it'll be covered. I can be a little bit of a worry wart so I didn't know if this would be necassary to persue or if most people recover pretty quickly with minimal issues. If you believe I should how long post placement may I have issues up to - 1 month, 6 months, etc. Thanks again, you all are heaven sent <3

Depends on work

It depends on the type of work you do. If you work at a desk in an office, you should be good to go with a week of recovery time. You'll still be in a little pain at the end of a week, but you should be able to return to a desk job with no problem. For my first implant, I returned in a week with no issue. You shouldn't really need that much time off after that. You will need a follow up visit with the doctor about a week or so after the implant, and you may need some visits to do some tweeking to the pacemaker settings.

I'm wondering why you are having problems with FMLA. You are entitled to use up to 12 weeks a year under FMLA. If it is intermittent like a day or two, you should not have to give specifics on exactly when you will need to use it.

You should check on A..D.A. adults with disabilities act. When my fmla runs out I'm covered on that.

Good luck

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
