Another Newbie!

Hello All, I can’t tell you how relieved I am to find this site. I too had a PM put in (Biotronic) just 8 weeks ago. I thought I was going crazy with all these new symptoms I’ve been having until I read some postings here and seen I was not alone. The post from devora.briones is identical to mine. I was put on Metpropol also. My problem was a Slow rate now I have a Fast rate and losing my breath and dizzy spells. What the heck??

How long does it take to get back to some regular heart rates?  Also, has anyone ever taken their PM back out??? I feel like I want to so I can get back to normal??? I’m too old for this crap, LOL, and just want to know how long before I feel better? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I just felt like venting, you know?

First off, let me just say that I have not had this experience and hopefully others that have will respond.

With that said, my first thought when I read your post is, I wonder how many times you have had your settings changed?? The reason I ask is, I dont think you should be having such fast heart rates and dizzy spells and perhaps your PM is not adjusted correctly for you. It takes some people several tries before they get their PM settings right for them.

Take care, Cathy

Hi, sorry you are having a bad experience. I would say for 85% of the people that get a PM the settings "out of the box" are perfect for them. Unfortunaetly for the other 15% or so "tweaking" is required. It will take several visits with your doctor to adjust it accordingly. I highly suggest that your keep a log everytime you feel these dizzy spells and fast heart rates. Write down the date and the exact time it happens. The PM records everything and in some cases there is too much data to analyze so if you can help the technician zero in on the problem arrythmias it is helpful and he/she can adjust accordingly. Biotronik has a lot of bells and whistles at their disposal to help you out. Have you ever had a "tilt table" test done? If your dizzy spells come from something called neurocardiogenic syncope, then you have the perfect device in you to address that problem. If it turns out that is your issue, make sure the technician turns on the "CLS" feature of your device. Ask your doc.

Good luck

Thankyou! When I have gone to Dr. and rep is there testing me, the Dr. seems to intimidate her. I will keep a record and show them next time and insist on help. It seems the Dr. is in such a hurry he doesn't take the time to just listen to me. He acts like time will heal everything and I know it isn't. Thankyou again.

Unfortuneately this story happens over and over again. It would not surprise me if the Doc intimidates her, that just suggests that maybe their relationship is not very strong. Some doctors just want an assembly line, in and out, in and out and look at the strips later and call you if there is a problem and get you back in. I will admit that even in my own practice there is a huge clinic that I do (30-40pts a day) where I have to crank it out in order to keep the doctors business flowing. I don't particularly like this, I am just blessed with the fact that I am halfway decent at my job I can troubleshoot fairly quickly. But there have been plenty of times I wish I had more time and lose sleep at night. If a doctor wants checks done in 5-7 minutes.....as a rep you better adhere to that policy or he will throw you out and bring the next guy waiting at the door in, this obviously hurts business....but I am getting side tracked here. The key is finding out whats causing yoru dizzy spells, it can be 1 of a million things from high potassium, low B.P., High B.P., stress, etc etc. But if it stems from a common problem as I mentioned before (neurocardiogenic syncope) that CLS sensor you have works like magic (not everybody is sold on its abilities but I am) Biotronik is the only company that has that sensor, hence why I said you have the perfect device if that ends up being your issue. But a Tilt Table test is used to determine that

I am having the same problem with my Biotronic pm implanted on July 21. Heart racing when I just get up from my desk or chair and walk into another room. Wearing a heart monitor and on Metoprolol also. Which doesn't make sense to me either. Also, 6 weeks after weeks surgery, I now have an infection. Not bad but I thought the incision was healed. More tests in a couple of weeks. I think the settings are wrong for me and had them changed one. I sometimes feel like something is sticking me in the chest. Sunday morning while lying in bed, I could feel the pm working. Does this happen with anyone else? Was formerly a healthy, active person and this is taking some time to get used to.
