Pneumonia and flu vaccines and shots

Hi,

Has anyone (I'm 54) with a pacemaker for heart block (and no other health issues) been advised to have any jabs, vaccines or shots for pneumonia, flu or shingles (or anything else)?

I get the flu vaccine every year. Got the flu, or something similar this year, but it was not as bad as many who did get the shot had to endure.

Any one who does not want to contract any of the above diseases should get the vaccine for them .

Good Question

I am considering getting the flu shot this year. No one has mentioned the shingles shot to me....I need to do some research.

I got the pneumonia vaccine about 5 years ago. My GP at the time said you should have this shot every 10 years. He then looked at me and told me I will never get this shot again??? Maybe he knows something I don't.

flu shot, definitely

For years I didn't get a flu shot because of a nasty reaction long ago.

Since then, I've become a grandparent and the children's parents are physicians. Each year they encourage me to get the shot so this past year I finally took their advice (partly for myself but also so that I neither pass the flu onto the children nor contract it from them). My primary care physician didn't push the shot but was glad when I told her I wanted to get it this time.

Yes

I have the flu shot every year. It is winter here in Oz and there are more flu victims than ever before, despite the powers that be urging as many people as possible to have the vaccine. Our hospitals are overcrowded. Unfortunately there are still many deaths from flu, especially the elderly and those with certain medical problems. I have never had a reaction to it, just some arm discomfort for a few days.
However I have never had the shingles vaccine and now will consider this. I have had shingles once, but only mildly.
Having a pacemaker is no issue with vaccines.

Vaccines

I get the flu shot every year, and have the basic vaccines most people have. My GP said I could also get the pneumonia shot, but she never pushed for it. Think this has nothing to do with being a pacemaker patient; it's advisable for everyone to get certain vaccines.

I am 67, heart block with CRT-P, and have had all the shots you mention. Pneumonia, pneumonia booster, and Shingles being the latest. Never have had a problem. I also get an annual flu shot, always have. Your choice.
