I am thinking of taking something that might help with my tendonitis pain/discomfort in my wrist area and glucosamine comes to mind.
I have a pacemaker for heart block (no symptoms apart from heart going very slow when I was asleep) and I'm on no medication. Does anyone have any experience of taking glucosamine and is there any chance it could effect my heart, maybe cause palpitations or tachycardia?
Thanks

I would be surprised if glucosamine does you any harm , I would be astonished if it does you any good !
It used to be believed that glucosamine helps cartilage to regenerate but these beliefs were based on virtually no evidence . So attempts were made to pool what published evidence is available regarding its effectiveness in arthritis and regrettably the conclusion seems to be that glucosamine is no better than placebo i.e. it simply doesn't work !
Studies where MRI scans were used showed that it has no effect on cartilage regeneration !
But you have tendonitis, which is not a cartilage problem. People often assume that tendons are the same as cartilage and they are not. Tendons are made up mostly of fibrous collagen and not cartilage.
There is no evidence whatsoever that glucosamine can help human fibrous collagen to repair.
But if you really need to spend your money , try it, you may be the very first person in the world to show that glucosamine is good for tendonitis.
Best of luck

Glucosamine and heartblock

Thanks everyone....interesting answers, although mainly I was interested in if there were any contraindications re glucosamine and heart block.....I am doing exercises to help, doc said it was arthritis but I say no way is it that! Everything points to tendonitis, doc didn't even ask if I did anything repetitive with that hand (it looks like a lot if texting etc can cause this, oops!)
......and I already eat healthy (no meat or dairy) so I do think my flipping iPhone is to blame :-)

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.

Glucosamine shouldn't affect your heart but always make sure your dr knows what you are on. My dr asks about vitamins and supplements as well as prescriptions. I've taken glucosamine and it did help my joints.
If the tendonitis is bad, you might want to see a physical therapist. Even one trip can help, get an exercise regimen.
