New Device

Just returned from an overnight stay at the hospital after having my 2.5 year old Medtronic Consulta CRT-P replaced with a Medtronic Viva XT CRT-D. EP felt the new device would serve me better. It is approx. 50% larger and heavier than the Consulta, and has the ability to deliver a "shock" when needed. Procedure lasted about 2 hrs --- I was in La-La-Land. A little sore today, but no big deal. Medtronic Reps were on hand every step of the way and delivered tons of info. Only thing I didn't like was the uncomfortable hospital beds. I spent the night in the ICU, and there were folks there in much more dire shape than I was. My goal is to not become one of them. I spent 45 mins walking the floor a few hours after the procedure, and I intend to resume my 4 mile jaunts every day beginning Sat. this week!

incentive

Nothing like spending time on the cardiac floor and/or ICU to give us incentive to take care of ourselves! I'm congenital so every I've landed on the cardiac floor every time I've been hospitalized. It has always had a profound impact on my life choices.
