Important Question

Hi,
I am a teenager working at McDonald's. I typically work the window, but I'm afraid that the wirless frequencies from the headset might affect my pacer. My managers do not know if it is electromagnetic or not. I don't want to wear the headset and damage the pacer, but I don't want to get into trouble at work. Does anybody have an answer? I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks,
Carly

no problem

The frequency of the radio is totally different from what the pm uses so that's not an issue.

It's very rare to find a magnet in electronics that is strong enough to affect the pm, but if you happen to find something that does, it's harmless. When they test it at the drs office, the thingy they lay on our chest has a magnet. It pulls a little switch closed and puts it in test mode with limited function. As soon as the magnet is removed, the switch opens again and it goes back to full function with no harm done. It's unlikely the headset will interfere and be strong enough to pull the switch closed but on the off chance it does, just be sure to keep it 6" from your pm.

PM Interference

Hi Carly,

If you haven't noticed anything unusual by now rest assured the headset is not affecting your pacemaker. First it is not going to damage your PM. If it were to affect its operation you would feel it as an irregular heart beat. Should that ever happen simply get a 3 or 4 feet away from what ever you think may be the source of the interference and your PM will return to normal operation in a few seconds.

I had something similar to happen to me while going through a Walmart security gate one day when I had to stop while standing between the posts. I had a very irregular heart beat, unlike any I had ever had before and fortunately for me, I recognized it for what it was. I walked about 3 feet away from the gate and my PM went back to normal operation and my heart rate returned to normal. All this took at most 15 to 20 seconds and I, nor the PM, was harmed.

So continue to hand out the food and don't worry about your PM.

Good luck,

Smitty

Cool, Thanks:)

Thanks.

I usually don't worry about those things, but ever since I found out about the the earphones thing for ipods I wanted to make sure.:) And yeah I know what your talking about with the Walmart thing. I didn't notice it until after an incident with the metal detectors at The Capitol, but afterward I began to notice it a little. lol. Glad to know I wasn't imagining it. I feel a lot better about it.

Cool, Thanks:)

You can use any earphones, too! And cell phones and play game systems and ipads and kindle... :o)

You know you're wired when...

You have a dymo-powered bike.
