Side effects

Hi Jax,
I took digoxin for about a month when I was suffering with post op atrial flutter. It helped slow my heart down and I experienced no negative side effects. From what I have read, this is a drug to take exactly as your doctor says and you should also make sure your doctor knows everything else you are taking. Taking digoxin with certain calcium channel blockers can have a synergistic effect and slow your heart down too much. Digoxin toxicity is an overdose condition that results in total heart block.
As a side note, digoxin also can cause visual changes called a yellow halo effect. Supposedly, the artist Van Gogh was taking digitalis (which is basically digoxin) when he was painting in his "yellow period." Also, allegedly he died from digitalis toxicity.
Good luck,
E. B.
