VISITING HOOVER DAM...

Hi Pace Members,

I will be visiting Hoover Dam in late March 2013. While on Hoover Dam's web-site I read the following WARNING:

"The tours are NOT RECOMMENDED for anyone who suffers from claustrophobia, or has a pacemaker or defibrillator. Tours are conducted in confined spaces and in a powerplant with generators emitting electromagnetic frequencies."

Has anyone gone to the Hoover Dam and if so, did you go on the power plant tour? It seems that the concern is the power plant area and not the entire dam visiting area.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you

..drops by. I think he has been through Hoover Dam.

If not the Dam, then I misundersod & it was a vacuum Cleaner. Either way, if Frank talks about it, things will be exciting.

Hoover Dam? Vacuum? LOL!

I'm with Don. I can't wait for Frank's response on this one! I think I'm more excited to see what vacuum stories he has to tell, than his stories on actually visiting the dam itself. LOL!

In all seriousness though, I do believe I remember reading answers to this same question in the past. Do wait for Frank's response (he truly will answer your question.) But, until then, do a search on Hoover Dam by using the search function up at the top, right hand side of this site.

Good luck, I hope you can go!

I'd pass

It's pretty rare for me to let the pm keep me from doing something I want to do, but I skipped this one when we were in the area.

I've been to Hoover Dam

It was before my pm but I do remember the sign. Parts of the tour are in very narrow enclosed spaces but does not work well with a pm. I remembered they talked about powerful magnets.

I'm sure Frank will give you a better explanation but there's a trip to Hoover Dam by riverboat and its very nice.
Safe for us pm wearers. Scenery was awesome.

Here comes da Frank

Yes I've been to Hoover (Boulder) Dam, but not since I got the pacer. My take is this. Small tight spaces won't have any effect on the pacemaker. If you get anxious or panic in tight spaces, and worry about your pacer pacer, let me know. I'll meet you there with my video camera for some Funniest Home Videos.

Now the serious part. Some of the huge generating units are as old as 1936. They likely have large magnetic fields around them. I wouldn't want to snuggle up to one of them. And then there is always the possibility of a transmission line failure somewhere out in the desert which can reflect even larger fields around power circuits. If I had to go into the generator room in an emergency I would, but not just for fun.

And then you wouldn't want your pacer to shut down the dam would you? LOL
