Hi everyone I have to renew my driver's licsense I was told by the dmv in Kansas I am not allow to driver a motor vechicle any more because of the ICD/CRT-D because of the D sorry can't spell that word. The State of Kansas has change its laws I am unsafe to drive because not knowing of the shock, that could happen at any time. Has anyone ever run into this type problem in other states?

A Good reason to be sure

I agree with the comments above as far as being shocked while driving. This does bring up another important issue though.
There have been several reports over the years here on the forum of a person having dizzy spell or fainting from a cause other than cardiac. They are pushed into having an ICD implanted without adequate diagnostics to show it's need. So now they could well lose their drivers license due to an incorrect diagnosis.
It is becoming more and more important that we take charge of things like this. When I had my replacement done I made it very clear that I was in the hospital for the express purpose of having my pacemaker replaced and that any other type device needed to be authorized in writing by me. While I didn't expect any changes I also realized that there was still likely copies of my early misdiagnosis of SSS and variant angina floating around and someone could decide it would be good for me to have an ICD.

Must be recent

I had a friend in Wichita Kansas who had one of those and drove until he died. It must be a recent revision, but I can understand it really. A defibrillator darned near knocks you out when it hits. That could make things VERY unsafe at 70 MPH.
I am a little concerned about my CDL physical. I have a normal PM but don't know if I will have a problem with licensing for that.
Sorry for your bad news. Good luck.

I have what is called a very rare heart problem, called Cardiomyopathy, NYHA Stage III, their place a BiVentricular Defibrillator device implant the last part of my implant was done by cardiovascular surgeon, I also have very low blood pressure. Back to driving what is hard for me I have been driving since I was 14 and drove also prof driver, drove cabs, school buses, and motor coaches too, when you love something it can be very hard to give up, I will do what is right, I don't want to held responseble in ever hurting or by accident causing someone to lose their lives because I would get shock, I wouldn't want that on my mind. Again thank you so much for the imput and love and support here, God bless you all.

Love of driving

Me too. I do my best thinking when I'm driving. At 82 I can still cover 600 miles in a day if I need to.My longest run was in 1953 when I drove from New Jersey to Iowa in my 1938 Ford. that was before interstates and was a 25 hour continuous trip. Of course I was 23 yrs at the time.
One advantage I have living in a small desert town is that I it is only 2 blocks from my place to having a network of dirt roads available. If I ever get to where I'm concerned about driving on paved roads and streets I'll just spend time in the desert exploring. The worst I could do if I passed out is go off a cliff.
Maybe you could help some farmer with driving a tractor.

I'm 43 and have had my pacemaker four weeks today. I'm looking forward to living another 50 years and this marvelous device inside me will help me do that.
