but that's me. I put up with severe SOB & fatigue for almost 2 yrs & so glad I did it. AV node ablation & paced 100%. You will stay over night in the hospital, need to keep your arm on PM side below shoulder for a few wks (different docs, different times). Depending on your general health & what your job is will depend on when you can go back to work. I had a clerical job at the time so went back to work in 4 days ( including week end). You'll get a lot of comments here. And you probably know about the "Search" button on top right of this screen so you can look up different topics.

Let us know how it goes,

Don't give up!

I had my first pm implanted 12/17/12. Was off during the holidays and went back to work for 3 days last week. I have a clerical job and pretty much manage my own tasks, so my job is as as easy or hard as I make it. I won't sugar coat it; I was extremely tired each one of those first days, but now I am doing great. You will feel so much better! Just listen to your Dr. and take it easy for about 2 weeks. Hope you have a speedy recovery and feel better very soon!

Healing

Yes we all have different experiences and Cardios give different times for healing and the type of job you do also counts.

I went back to work too soon, The PM was doing its job and I felt good so I overdid it (personality) and did not give the PM time to settle into its pocket and secure itself with scar tissue. I regret that!
It moved and though it works fine (after fine tuning the settings - you'll get great advice on this site for that) it caused pressure on nerves etc till I could no longer lift a cup of coffee with that arm.
I've now had to have it repositioned under the muscle.

Wear the sling, sleep with your PM arm inside a t-shirt to make sure you don't lift it above your head. Dont carry things with that arm until you can do it pain free. Be sensible. Listen to your own body. Patience for a little while pays off.
You will be great!

My thoughts

are to take it slow,as advised.I am 6 months out from 1st PM implant, and I will say its been quite a ride.
I had no time to plan,as my situation came up rather quickly, from 1st sign of a problem it was just short of 3 weeks I think it was when I had surgery.
I tried work too soon, 10 days after surgery, was told I could, shouldnt have though.Im a hairdresser, and even though I couldnt and didnt raise or use arm on side of implant,it was too soon, and I should have waited. Then had an issue, needed adjustment, and more rest.
Another week off was good.
I honestly wasnt stronger til I hit 6 weeks, but thats me,and I am in pretty good shape, for being 49,female,working out daily at time of problems,it just took the wind out of my sail.
Give yourself time,
it's alot to adjust to for most.
Im in Ohio, why did you choose Toledo? If youre in Florida, just curious.I was fortunate to go to the Clinic, and I cant tell you how happy I am that I was able to.

I also waited too long

To have a pm. First they couldn't find out what was happening
It was so intermittent. The episodes were worse and worse. Finally They found what the problem was and no more dizziness or feeling like I was going to pass out.
I've had my pm since April and now I don't even k ow its there. There are some rules to follow -- not raising yr arm above yr head and lifting but it wasn't terrible.
Stayed home for about a week -- my problem was I am left handed and pm was implanted on my left side
Keep us posted
