Can't a guy even break a foot & take time out for a bit of surgery to repair it?
I had a living ball this summer - late May I had a messy hernia repaired. Then I got involved in organizing a Gala dinner in Atlanta that ate up every waking moment till 2 Sept & then some that weren't awake.
At the dinner, just before we were to sit down to eat I tripped on a hump in a rug, did a forward roll onto the floor to protect my head from impact. Got a TEN for style from a friend, but tore a ligament in my right foot.
Google the lisFranc Ligament to find out what it is. Connected to my favorite man to quote - Napoleon - and a Gynaecologist & a cavalryman. NO idea how long it will take to recover - varies by individual & how badly you mess up your innards. Maybe I was lucky???? Find out next Thurs when they open up my cast.
No bear in its right mind will screw around w/ a crotchety old man on crutches.
But , for now - I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

Bears, bears...

& more bears.
Last weekend a black bear - same as we have here in Nawth Jawja - killed a hiker in northern New Jersey - not much more than 50 miles from New York City.
Bears have become quite common in that part of the country - you do not have to go far from New York City to get into some really heavily forested country. Bears can live quite comfortably around humans - we eat the same things, believe it or not. There are three animals on the planet that suffer the same diseases, eat the same food & occupy the same living space - sometimes. Pigs, bears & Humans. Bad news when the two former lose their fear of the latter.
TM - personally, I feel closer to mules than to goats. Goats smell bad!
Cheers!

Good to have you back Don !

I guess the safest way to hike in bear country is to have a hiking companion who walks more slowly than you do !

I'll have you know...

....that our garbage ranks right up there w/ any of our neighbor's garbage - just that us'ns bein' 'Yankees, livin' 'mongst honest-to-goodness Good-ol'-Boys, there ain't as many scrapin's from breakfus plates containin' vulcanized greeyuts! These suthen ba'rs are greeyut Connoisseurs, you know.
Now I'm in for it - trying to talk w/ a Southern accent when all our neighbors know that we're 'Yankees & are really the ones out here that talk funny.
Actually, GH missed the real reason the Bears are moving north. Bears hibernate during the winter & because Global warming is causing the bananas to bloom in January around here, they just cannot get a good winters' sleep because of their heavy fur coats.
Cheers!

You took the whole summer off and now you want more time off?? What are we paying you for?
Oh wait.....we don't get paid. :-/
Yes, there are more reports of bears in this neck of the woods the past few years. Rumor has it, some guy in Georgia is scaring them all up north. That....and he doesn't have any good garbage to eat.

Have you gone bananas!!

No global warming here. It's been the coldest summer on record, according to some reports. Those are some smart bears. They'll sleep just fine here.
BTW: They call it "climate change" now. The climate always changes anyway. The global warming title didn't work out so well.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
Good Question

Hi Tat Man,
Haven't been on in awhile, but that's a good question, hope those bears in the hills of Georgia didn't get him.
