...................apologies to those who might think this posting ' off subject'.
But.
The passing of the legend that is / was..Lou Reed ,is a major loss to a generation that broke more ground than others that ( tried ) to follow.
I just know that, here on PMC, there are those ,who, may well have ,'walked on the wild side'
Lou was , just 71,..no age,..but with a creative legacy that none can dismiss....
I saw Reed at Leicester De Montfort Hall UK , while I was waiting for open heart surgery in ;07
Someone in the audience shouted out.."Walk on the wild side"
He slid up to the mike and asked if all people wanted to hear was his Back Catalogue.
This is,..to me the mark of a true Artist...NO BACK CATALOGUE
I have seen Blondie ,..In E/XS....Fleetwood Mac, Stones, Rod Stewart...all of them.......
Lou Reed didn't do Gigs..he presented his current position a propos his art.
A message to all..be yourself all of the time.. make a difference..do not be scared of change.
Mr Lou Reed..a very important contributor to the world of music.

With all the problems of this day,how can you believe that losing Lou Reed is important? It is not really a tragedy or a major loss.
Get a life. Please.

........sure,..I agree with you completely.
With all that is going on, in our lives. both near and far away, not least of all those who involve themselves, here, in PM Club..the death.DEATH............(...I DONT DO 'PASSING',).of Reed,..may not leave much for many to concern themselves with.
Lou Reed..71..left this world with a legacy that just may be questioned for a long time...?
Lou Reed..71..left this world having contributed so much to a world of musical creativity that, I assume / understand, you may not be able to take on board.
Clarencio..I opened my Post with an apology..and that apology remains.
Reed..yesterday was one of those 'ageing rockers'.
Hands up on this Forum who do not identify with that age-group ?
Clarencio....just maybe it might be time to see basic Humanity..albeit to a pivotal element in the history of Rock and Roll.
Lou Reed was ,..hey,..just like me and you,..Flesh and Blood.....The guy in the drab coat, standing next to you,..in NY...just an ordinary guy.
How do you get along with Ordinary Guys on Time Square.??
Reeds Cardiac strength gave out yesterday........
For all at PM Club...I dearly wish you better

>>> at this point, I am tempted to rehash a little John Donne (slightly abridged):
No man is an island
........
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
I must admit that I did not recognize the name Lou Reed, any more than some people would not recognize Ellen Taafe, Glenn Miller or Henry Fillmore.
We do not all march to the cadence of the same drummer!
I shall take your word for his fame & join you in mourning, for the bell does indeed toll for me.

I am not making light of the dead, deceased, passed on etc. However there are too many people in this world put up on pedestals.
I never agreed with John Donnes "No man is an Island----I believe that every man is an Island. You are born alone and die alone and most everything in between is a result of your actions and beliefs. I was there myself, 4 years and three days ago.
This a quote from Lou Reed----
"I don't know what goes on in the crowd. I have had them show up and throw beer cans at me. I caused riots in most of the major cities"
And he is on a pedestal for performing ROCK AND ROLL?
These pedestals should be reserved for the more worthy.
Don't we all appreciate a clear headed debate ?.............

....................so..we have Lou Reed, a waste of space and hardly worth a mention.
Happily he is far from alone...
Franz Kafka...starved to death.
Keats....not much better.
Van Gogh.....a crap painter that only sold a couple of pictures to support his addiction.
Igor Stravinski's opening night of 'The Rite of Spring'
now this is a laugh..
Its 1913..picture the scene, the auditorium is packed with 'art lovers'. At half time the Toffs with their silk scarves are punching eachother...outraged at the rubbish they are subjected to.
The Cops come in..to no effect..unable to control the mob..the rioting continues
I take my Top Hat off to Stravinsky..surely a true American-based 'King of Proto-Punk'

Oh, by the way, Picasso and pretty well every Surrealist painter was having a laugh. As for El Greco and Manet....I don't know why they bothered at all.
All, as we know, have sunk without trace or influence.
DEAD Poets

You initiated an off subject comment to begin with, and now you continue to expand on it with your thoughts about Dead Poets. I think we all would be better off with you bringing this up on Twitter, Facebook or one of those other useless social crapsites.
thank you,

....................for me . London is a centre of culture that many, in the benighted end of the New World, just might find difficult...for me its about 90 mins away..

Tattoo Man,
I hope you mean this post only. I enjoy your wit and wisdom here.
Don't let others rattle your cage, some folks don't appreciate other points of view.

A short note to those who are...
by donr - 2013-11-02 08:11:05
...incensed by OT posts & comments.
It takes conscious effort to open them up & read them. So if you know from the outset that you will not like a thread, why open it up & scroll down 9 comments?
When you go to the grocery store, do you buy food you definitely do not like? I doubt it, so why do the equivalent here?
That's why God invented the SCROLL capability - so you can sail right past them.
