................" Hawkeye" Lee (1915-2008)....His obituary in the Daily Telegraph included this account......

Squadron Leader Hawkeye Lee was a Hurricane pilot who shot down five enemy aircraft in France before being shot and baling out in 1940.

He was forced to bale out again during the Battle of Britain and was taken to a local golf course for a brandy while soldiers waited for his ambulance.

Heavily bloodstained, Lee was at the bar when he overheard a complaining voice...."All that damn machine gunning overhead made me miss my putt..and who is that chap at the bar ?...Bad show, all that blood...I dont believe he's even a Member ...."

Makes you feel so proud eh ?
