Baby Steps for TM

So,..my first run with the Club in two months. I set myself a really do-able task ...half an hour flat jog at 10 / 11 min mile pace. Three laps of well lit Newark..a slow wind up, really steady, finishing off at 175 bpm and feeling good..walked back to club ..10 mins down to 120 bpm. After a two month lay off and 12 days after my new (second ) PM, I felt this was a really good little test. Importantly...no serious coughing and gagging..so I'm looking closely at the Rate Response issue...it's currently turned off ( Teccie agreed to that on 17th Jan when I said that I was a runner)..( he fell for that one, eh?)

This has been a good day..essentially my start of 2013.

Tattoo Man

As ever, on a Tuesday evening I watch 'Holby City' a TV drama based on a Cardiac Department. So..for anyone who is in Cardio, right now, wherever in the World....we are all with you !

Hi! TM, Glad to read you are making progress. Take care and keep us posted. Hopeful Heart

Good for you

Really good you didn't push to hard this time, you have time to build up to where you will be almost happy with it. Never seen a runner that was really happy with their performance. It's always something. Best to you Jean

Yeah for Tattoo Man!!!

That's great news and I'm glad you don't have your Rate Response on either.

Just curious, does your pacemaker have a Rate Drop Response feature?

Mine does, but it's turned off, because I'm a runner too!

......................................we may need a bigger shed this year.

Your point is well made...I really do hope that my posting does not upset anyone, its the last thing that I would wish for. I would hope that my little story might encourage those who feel that having a PM marks the end of their useful life.

Just like I did

Best wishes to all at PMC....ooh, is that the time ??...'early doors' at the Five Bells it is then !

What you need

by ElectricFrank - 2013-01-30 02:01:45

Hey TM, you need an adjustable pacer that you can turn up when you pick up speed. There should be a photo of mine in my gallery.

Tatman, you truly have NOT upset me & l really didn't mean it to sound that way. l love reading good, happy posts like yours & like Ian said l have achieved so much since having my PM.l can walk around the shops etc all day its just "serious" walking l struggle with & probably IF l could walk, well l would then want to be able to run and on it goes ...........................
There are more than likely things that l can do that you cant, & anyway why do we need a bigger shed? ok l have put on a pound or two over the winter but not that much !!! & l have a brilliant summerhouse next to it so we can spread if it gets too packed :-)
Stay happy,
Sue x

Sounds good

Hi Tattoo Man .. Half hour run , 12 days after implant, sounds good to me . Don't raise your arm above shoulder height when you wave to the cheering crowds !

If you hit 175 bpm it would seem that you definitely don't need Rate Response ; your heart is obviously responding to exercise. Casper, what does the Rate Drop Response feature do ?? Does it respond if you drop to the ground ?

Cheers

Ian

Jealous !!!

by sue uk - 2013-01-30 05:01:48

l really ,really envy you and others like you.l dont know why but l have the energy to "run a house" work, albeit part-time, l decorated the bedroom at the weekend but just walking normally affects my breathing.
l would consider myself in pretty good health apart from my heart, maybe its because l am in permanent Afib? it really just seems to be "walking" that l cant conquer, everything else has improved tremendously since l got my PM but l used to love walking the dogs buy it is just too "uncomfortable"now.
I'm not complaining tho' as l said everything else is greatly improved maybe l just need to push myself???
Anyway Tatman, well done you l am really happy for you but a tad envious too.
Keep it up !!!

There but for the grace of .......

by IAN MC - 2013-01-30 08:01:39

Hello Sue .. I think you speak for many PM people who simply CANNOT live normal energetic sporty lives after having a PM .

If you're stuck with permanent Afib, or a cocktail of drugs , or other cardiac conditions then you can only read about the more fortunate people where a PM is a passport to a new normal life ....and there must be a certain amount of envy or even resentment towards the lucky ones.

I remember how chuffed you were when you went off to South Africa on holiday despite your permanent a fib. and that was an achievement for you.

What I like about this PM club is that there is the whole range of personalities, medical conditions and health outcomes and we all celebrate each other's achievements at different levels.

... oh dear, I'm getting all philosophical; I think I'll sit in the garden shed until it wears off !
