Rare but it's good to be informed

My second sentence states "Classified as rare but worth noting". Donr and Bill are correct.

The update states: "Interference is completely avoided when the medical device is outside of the primary x-ray beam of the CT scanner".

This notification from the FDA was to simply make you aware of a very slight possibility of interference IF you needed a CT in the area of the PM. I also need to have a CT....of my lower back. I am not going to shy away from the CT scan due to this update.

If for any reason you have a CT scan AND do not feel right afterward, call your doctor and ask for a PM check to assure the programming has not changed....very simple to do.

Read the update again and get your CT scan. I hope you feel better.

Yeah, I have had two CT scans and no problems at all. In-fact, a CT scan is my only hope for certain diagnosis accuracy since I can't get an MRI.

It is important to be able to get a CT................

...STOP thinking & have the CT scan.

I have had at least 5 of them since PM implant & have had no side effects other than glowing in the dark.

The scans have been nothing but good for me.

Scans are nothing like the "Old days." Now they take but a few seconds, reducing your exposure significantly.

I agree David

Most of us cannot have an MRI.

Read the Details

by BillH - 2016-04-01 12:04:47

You have to go through the drop down menus and read the details.

First is very rare. Second they have not found a link between the CT and PM problems. Only that is a very few cases that PM problems have been seem at some time after a CT.

In many of the cases it was only seen at the next PM check and the problem could have happened at anytime.

Third the rare "problem" only happens if the area of the PM is scanned.

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
