Official Diagnosis

I had a Doctors appointment today because my "good hip" and opposite knee have suddenly become worse. I usually just push through it but this past week the pain has been off the charts for some reason.

The official diagnosis: I want to quote the Doctor so I get it right..... I have "crappy arthritis genes". That's the medical term.

He has a crystal ball too. He said there is more metal in my future. (Trying to hold off on that prediction).

According to the X-rays, I have bone spurs in both knees that look like a snaggletooth. When he rotated my leg, my knee sounded like sand rolling around inside. He made an awful face.....as if he was in pain??

Oh yeah, I also have a lateral meniscus tear. I have no idea how I did that but I guess that means no more swinging from the chandelier for a while. I'm gonna miss that but hopefully I can return to that acrobatic endeavor after physical therapy. Yes, more physical therapy. I'm starting to think I should punch a time clock when I'm there.

He also told me to continue to take the anti-inflammatory medicine. What anti-inflammatory medicine?? The one I should have been taking....oh.....now I have a prescription for it. I just need to make sure it's ok to take with my cardiac meds.

Well this has been some dance...one step forward....three steps back. I guess I'm gonna limp to the gym tomorrow....gotta push forward. :-/

We did get some great news about my son medically.... so all is good.

I like this Doctor (new rumor).

I'd rather have a Doctor tell me like it is then one who would sugar coat it or not explain much. BTDT

All of the above is how the dialog went. I understand what "crappy arthritis genes" means. I thought it was a good way to put it.

Just trying to tell the story with a little humor. Thanks for the kind words Sarah3.

It did work

I got it - I chuckled. Of course, it's crap you'd rather not deal with but if you have to, then it might as well be with a bit of humour. Like you said -" gotta push forward" but sometimes it would be nice if someone was pulling us at the same time.

Good luck Grateful Heart - will be thinking of you.

Shecky Green youse Guys...

...aren't. You'll never make it in the Catskills in the Borscht Belt. (Let's see all out Brit friends figure that one out).

I like that - crappy arthritis genes - also my kinda guy. But I've got one that isn't genetic - I tore a ligament in my foot back on 2 Sept & had to have three bones screwed together using what looks like on the X-Ray to be a fist full of small head 1-5/8 inch long trim screws. The ligament is named after a French Gynaecologist named lisFranc. Apparently he got himself drafted into Napoleon's Army to take care of cavalrymen.

GH - I'll match my Restless Leg genes against your arthritis genes. I've passed them on to 3 out of 4 of our kids - & one of our granddaughters has it. Pretty potent gene, eh?

Anyone out there got a Neurologist that makes his hosp rounds between midnight & 3 AM? They call him the "Midnight Marauder."

The medical field is made up of more weirdos than carter has little pills.

"crappy arthritic genes"

by Gotrhythm - 2014-10-22 12:10:15

You know they only use arcane diagnostic terms like that when they are trying to mystify and make us feel ignorant, don't you? Or when they are totally clueless and trying to cover it up. [tongue firmly planted in cheek.]

A doc who will tell it like it is is a rare and wonderful find. Sounds like he's a keeper.

As for you, GH, you blow me away with your courage and unfailing good humor.

Love it

I'm going to steal this phrase and use it in my practice. With everything. Crappy mental health genes, crappy lipid genes, crappy ...fill in the blanks.
Stay strong GH and hope the meds help.

Thanks All

Marie: I thought I was losing my touch.

Don: I remember Shecky Green. Of course I was just a kid then. :-)

They also have a medical term for what you did to your foot.

I sure hope these genes aren't potent.

You can have my arthritis genes AND keep your Restless Leg genes....I'm feeling generous.

Gr: Wow! I'm speechless. That doesn't happen often, just ask my Husband.

Bossy: Now that you mention it, I have crappy lipid genes too. It's never been put that way but now that I understand this medical term...it fits.

This stuff is small potatoes. We all know others who have it really hard. Keep smiling!

Doctor, when I ....

....do this, it always hurts.

DR...Then don't do that!

See how easy it is to practice medicine?
