The BIG Event .....
by donr - 2014-08-20 09:08:54
...is Tues, 2 Sept, 2014. It's in the brand new College Football Hall of Fame (HOF) in Atlanta, GA. Oh, what is the BIG EVENT?
It's a formal dinner celebrating the opening of the new HOF building here in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The old building was in South Bend, Indiana, the home of Notre Dame University, & being 60 yrs old, was a technological cave man as far as such institutions go. Chick-fil-A, an American fast food chain, convinced the HOF to move to Atlanta & used multi-millions of $$$$ to accept their offer.
Wife & I went through the new HOF last Sat & it is a marvel of modern technology, just waiting for real American style football college/university fans to come & enjoy. It was crawling w/ kids having a ball, so I think it will be a success. If anyone wants to see this marvel, go to cfbhall.com to see it. Our dinner is going to be in the "Playing Field" room.
Right now, w/ a mere 8 days to go, we are up to 313 RSVP's w/ a potential for another 30-50, easily.
We started out w/ a hall that would hold 300 people comfortably - the HOF thought. W/our projections, we got shoved into a vast cavern that will hold up to 900. No way will we make that, but I have hopes that we will hit 400.
Long story how I came to be honcho'ing this project. My college was instrumental in founding the organization that owns the HOF & a couple of us in Atlanta thought it would be a neat idea to hold such a soiree to shine a little light on the old Alma Mammy. There were many naysayers who told us to our faces that we would fail. Fail miserably, to be sure. That we would never even attract 100 people from the city of Atlanta. I convinced our local alumni society to go along w/ the idea & they let me do it & even staked the effort w/ $3,000 as seed money. The low point in the event was the day i looked at the financials & discovered that we owed more than the society was worth. Thought I'd have to pay it out of my own pocket - which has a hole in the bottom of it.
My criteria for calling it a success was 150 attendees; my goal was 300 attendees. Oh, also to break even, financially. We have done all of the above.
Grateful Heart, would you like to come & bake some of that crow you fed me a while back? You have a great recipe, & I know the naysayers who will be there would appreciate a gourmet dish like your baked crow to eat. The biggest one is going to be sitting right on the dais, looking out over the crowd. You think I'd gloat? Who, me? NEVER! But I did call him up two weeks ago to tell him where our attendance list was.
Looking FWD to this thing being over so I can get my life back. It's been 6AM-11PM 7 days a week since it started.
GH: Thanks for being my straight woman & giving me a chance to tell everyone about it.
All: If you are interested in attending it will be well worth your while if you are a real American Football fan. send me a Pvt Msg & I'll give you details. Right now we have a bunch of people coming from as far away as Washington, DC. That's 600 miles. Even have one coming from Colorado Springs, Colorado.

It sounds like it will be very successful....congrats!
Those naysayers will never learn.
I only serve up the baked crow dish (not fried) for special occasions and your naysayers fit the bill (pun intended). Make sure the biggest one gets a 2nd helping.
I will send it down to you via air. The quickest way will be.....as the crow flies.
Heads up!
