Do they make a pill for stupidity?

...because I need one. I shoulda stayed home.

I went to the gym today, right after I had my annual eye exam at the Ophthalmologist office. I was in the "big boys room", you know, with all the free weights and bigger machines. Nothing new, I use them all the time now. I was on the Gravitron 2000 machine and when I stepped down, I stepped right onto a 25 lb. round plate weight that was sitting half under the machine.

Well down I went as my foot planted half on, half off the plate. I felt pain in my foot but not sure from where as I lay there trying to figure out what just happened. No one else was in the room...thankfully. Didn't want to add humiliation to my list of symptoms.

It hurt to try to stand on it so I hobbled out of the gym and decided maybe I should get it checked out. I banged my arm on the way down too but didn't realize it until I was in the ER and I kept touching the back of my arm because it hurt. Finally I looked at it and saw the bruise.

So off for X-rays I go. They took a lot and yep, I broke my foot. The fifth metatarsal bone. It's in a splint until I see the Ortho for a cast in a few days.

I had the Nurses laughing when I said......maybe I should tell you about the screw in my ankle (they were going to see it anyway with the X-rays). After she typed that into the computer I said.....maybe I should tell you about my AICD....and we laughed. When she finished typing that I said.....maybe I should tell you about my hip replacement......well at this point we are hysterically laughing.......what pain??

I had to explain about my dilated pupils...that must have been a sight.

Then the Nurse said it's in the computer that I'm on chronic pain medication.....NO. That was disturbing, my hip replacement was over a year ago and those pain meds were for a very short while. I told the Doctor I didn't need them and did not want a refill back in April 2013. The Nurse said she would take that out of the computer.

Now here I sit, leg raised, iced and getting stiff.....all in the name of getting healthy. There's gotta be a better way.

I haven't used crutches since I was in my 20's. Believe me, it's not like riding a bike.

I'm getting too old for this....time to act my age.

So sorry to hear that! You need some chocolate covered strawberries for sure. Hope you recover quickly. Act your age? Where's the fun in that?

oh no!

Well, that totally sucks!!!! So sorry to hear you're derailed yet again.

My dd17 did the exact same thing last week at dance rehearsal, rolled her foot when she landed and broke the 5th metatarsal. She's downstairs with her foot up and on ice as I type this. She left the ER in a cast and crutches but the podiatrist let her have a boot and lose the crutches. Fingers crossed you are just as lucky.

Acting your age is overrated, but you might want to quit with the injuries.

Oh my!!

Congratulations on your ability to post with humour when you have experienced something like this. Something to be admired. All I can say is ouch and so sorry this has happened to you.

You are certainly not stupid but.....if you do find that stupidity pill, please share.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Should have stuck to my decision about not exercising...LOL

2 Nurses told me that's why they don't exercise.

Bossy: I need chocolate covered strawberries and then some.

Tracey: So sorry to hear about your daughter. Yep, same thing. It would be wonderful if they give me a boot. I can only hope but you know Murphy's Law. Tell your daughter I am sitting here elevated and iced in solidarity with her. :-)

Marie: I am so mad at myself for this happening but I have to keep my sense of humor. Tonight when I try to sleep I may have a different take on it.

Ok, I won't act my age....but maybe I should act my body. LOL

........................sorry to hear about your mishap...at least no one else saw you !
I'm with the other guys on 'acting your age'. I decided a long while back not to act my age...so I decided to act someone elses age instead.

Tomorrow I hit 64...so I bought a pair of Mango Orange Nike Pegasus trainers on the basis that 'age related trainers' would be grey..ideally in drip-dry corduroy !

Surely you can carry on doing upper body weights when you feel up to it ?

You take care..it seems to me that you now have the time to catch up on some reading.

Hope you have a great day!

I guess I should get rid of my gray corduroy sneakers. :-)

Unfortunately, I will have plenty of time for reading now.

Bev: I dunno, my pride could use a cast.

No Nurse Ratchet, they were great!

Update

by Grateful Heart - 2014-05-25 02:05:21

I have great news. I have a cam boot! I am sooooo happy it's not a cast. BTDT and it's not fun.

I can't walk on it yet but my leg can breathe and I can ice it.

I can also see all the pretty colors of the rainbow on my foot and ankle when I get bored.

The other side of my ankle is bruised too but the Doctor said the screw is still in place, thank God. When he pressed on it, (the screw) I saw stars! There's something to be said for having a high tolerance to pain, I didn't even know that side was affected.

It could have been much worse so I am truly grateful and looking forward to walking on it.

As far as using the "facilities".....yet one more reminder that it's a man's world as I hop to the bathroom on crutches. :-)
