National Wear Red Day...

is tomorrow, Feb.7th. So wear something red tomorrow in support of the American Heart Association to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease. All our International friends are invited to join in as well. As we all know, heart disease doesn't discriminate, man or woman.

I'm Wearing...

by donr - 2014-02-06 09:02:52

...RED right now. And will tomorrow. (As long as I shed my Jammies & bunny slippers.) My work coat is a magnificent LL Bean Red, decorated w/ beads of dried concrete, PVC cement & wood glue. Whoops - interspersed w/ Rorschach blots of bleach spots.

We just had a couple "Neighbor's" kids come by w/ their Mom collecting for the AHA.

A sad case of what drugs are doing in the RURAL southland. The kids are really the woman's sister's kids. Sister could not stay off the Meth & lost them to the State. Fortunately Sister took them to keep them within the family.

Meth is a real problem in the rural south. Cooked up in a lot of places. You cannot buy a can of Drano or Lye w/o showing ID & being scrutinized by the store clerks/managers. Ditto for any other chemicals that are commonly used.

I'll stand up for all of my neighbors. All true Rednecks as the old definition is used - dirt farmers who work their butts off, own enough weapons to start (or prevent) a war. Go to Church on Sunday & distrust the Gummint. The current ones work two or three jobs w/i the family & can fix anything.
They run an underground economy that amazed me when I found out how extensive it goes. They are fighting to get their kids through school. Two of my neighbors' sons have graduated from college on GA HOPE Scholarships coming from lottery funds. One is working toward a PhD in physics.

They will help their neighbors at the drop of a hat - even us city slickers who moved in among them.

Keep up the beat!

Don

Soooooo

Hi Greatful Heart,

Thanks for reminding me, I'll have to dig out something from my closet, or go to TJ's or Marshall's tomorrow morning.

It is also the start of congenital heart defects awareness week. Lots of school children in our area gladly ditched their school uniforms and wore red today.

Coincidence?? maybe not....

Best wishes to the BHF also Tatman. It may well be coordinated....nice.

Enjoy your red and the day, Cheers!

Red shoes Duke? Well, that's one way to wear the color. :o)

Red Hearts Today!

by loudfork - 2014-02-07 08:02:14

I cut out little red felt hearts today for my family to wear. When I asked my 4 year old what was so special about mommy's heart, she said, "Its so full of love for me!!". Exactly!

Well, that, and it keeps a normal rhythm because of a beautiful pacemaker I'm thankful to have! But, love is absolutely the most important thing!

As a gesture of international friendship , I am going to stop at every red traffic light today . This change in my behaviour is in recognition of the American Heart Association.

My bloodshot eyes are another token gesture !

Enjoy the day, it sounds a very worthwhile cause .

..................................our beloved British Heart Foundation has, today launched the ' Ramp Up The Red ' campaign...basically do anything wearing red to raise awareness and maybe raise cash for the BHF. It is the 7th already here.

So..

Best wishes to the AHA...

This evening I shall go to my village pub wearing a BHS T-shirt and, as a demonstration of selflessness, shall drink red wine for as long as they will serve me !!

Take care Grateful Heart..

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didn’t slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
