How are you feeling? When do they expect to put your new device in?

Hope you are doing ok. Keep us posted so we can put you on our Prayer List....it's getting mighty long but God can handle it.

HI, I've been kept very inactive for a few weeks as I had my pacemaker (5th) removed June 4th at Harper University Hospital in Detroit. As they also removed my leads & lab tests showed slight infection at lead tip ends attaching to heart wall. I've been on Vancomycin via IV at Detroit. Presently I'm at a real nice care facility for another 2 weeks of IV treatment. On July 5th I'll be returning back to Harper to have my replacement pacemaker (6th) & leads implant done. I will then be sent back to my care facility for another 2 weeks of Vancomycin treatments which they hope will take care of any residual infection. Throughout this whole episode all blood tests were negative as to infection. So to all our pacer friends I really appreciate your concern & support Thank You All !!

Hey There, Other Don

Considering what happened, you at least don't have the bug as a systemic infection.

Sounds like you have things well under control!
Glad to hear that the care facility is "real nice." They can be the pits!

Wish you the best for the remainder of your incarceration. Sounds like you have a lot of time on your hands if all you do is sit around & wait for the next bag of bug juice.

Thank You for your come back!! Ya, just minutes ago doing lunch in this fancy cage with wife I brought up the Vanco "What If's" Sharon says forget about it. As I've had so many surgeries with negative side effects from antibiotics. Namely with my normal body bacteria getting out of whack & picking up hospital bugs.
So far I'm doing well as I've had good luck with previous PM replacement surgeries when I had a few bags of Vanco. BUT, this time it's overkill although I'm down to 500cc once a day delivered by IV over 3 hour period.
I will go back to Harper in Detroit July 5th for new implant & leads & then back to our home town "the grand" care facility for 2 more weeks of preventive Vanco IV. All I can say is "Hope my kidneys hold up". Well, so far, so good.
Also think of your recent bout every day. Guess I use your surgery as a pacifier for my slight discomfort. Oh, forgot to mention, they have different flavors of Vanco to break the boredom.

IV vs Oral Vanco

You lucky duck - you get it IV. Take that stuff orally & it wipes out your gut flora & you live next to the toilet!

Yeh, those type bug killers are rougher'nacob on the kidneys. But at least you are where they can monitor them daily - or whatever.

I'm pullin' for you.

I am sorry for the setbacks (surgeries) you both had to endure as of late. Donr is on the mend and DonB soon you will be too.

My Prayers are with you both....DonB, keep in touch...glad you are getting the help you need.

To tell you the truth I never even give it a second thought. While growing up it never stopped me from doing anything and to this day my girlfriend or my kids need to remind me that I have one!
