Women or those that love one

I spoke to a friend of mine who is a Nurse. She’s in the hospital after having a heart attack yesterday. She did not have chest pains at all. She had a pain that went from shoulder to shoulder just above her shoulder blades. She thought it was connected to the stiff neck she has been having. Also had a thin line of pain from each shoulder, down the outside of her arms to her hands. She was going to go to bed for a while but instead went to the store with her daughter where it got worse after walking around and they called an ambulance.

The Doctor put 1 stent in. It was a blocked Right Coronary Artery. I was happy to hear her Cardio is sending her to Cardiac Rehab; we had a good, long conversation about that!

Just thought I would pass a description of her symptoms along. It’s been said here before, we women sometimes have different signs of heart problems compared to men. Don’t think I would have recognized this one.

Dear Grateful Heart,

Thanks for the information. I have not heard of some of those symptoms before. Hopefully, a lot of us will post them on our Facebook pages so others can see them as well!

I'm so sorry for your friend, and will keep her in my prayers.

Thanks again!

Neck and Jaw

You are doing others a service by bringing this up; it is pretty well known in the EMS community, less so in the public at large. It is very common for women to present heart attack symptoms differently from men. In particular, pain in the neck or jaw, typically described as radiating to the left, can be an angina symptom in women.

Thanks,

E. B.

Thank you both
