Hip Replacement Surgery

This is a good hospital with caring Doctors, Nurses and staff.

The Boston Scientific rep showed up before the surgery as promised. The Anaesthesiologist asked the rep how he wants to do this. He said "I'm going to put a magnet over it, that's the easiest way". I explained I didn't want the easiest way, I want the safest way. He was also planning to leave and not be there to reprogram the settings back to where they were before the surgery. And then it began...

He said that is protocol for this hospital and he does what he is told, he doesn't make the decisions. So now I'm wondering, if that's protocol, then way did the Anaesthesiologist even ask him how he was going to do it?? She was very nice and I asked her if this was protocol...she said no. I explained I was not trying to be difficult, but that I had some complications in the past. She and the Nurse both said they understood and the Anaesthesiologist told the rep to use the programming...I love her! I trust that he did. This went back and forth and I asked them where they were going to put the ground plate? (thanks to Donr) You were right Don (of course), they were going to place it on my opposite leg. I asked why it couldn't be placed on the same leg, but lower...No. They could place it on my back, right behind where my ICD is located. No thank you. We settled on the right lower back but not close to the surgical site so needless to say, a little stressful even before the surgery.

Some of the BS reps I have had in the past were great.

So this AM they were going to get me up and walking. I sat up, felt dizzy and my BP was 70/47...the Nurse told me to lay back down. I thought that meant bed rest for the rest of the day but later my BP went up to normal and was able to do the exercises and a total of 2 laps around the floor for the day! It gives new meaning to the phrase "pain in the butt" but I was so happy and they said I will be feeling it tonight...that's ok, it felt good to move...LOL. So I'm doing well! Sorry about the long post but I am on pain meds right now and not used to them!!

So glad you are doing well and were informed enough to ask all the right questions prior to surgery. Great job!

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
