Altitude Training v Badly adjusted PM

We all know the theory of altitude-training where top-level athletes train at high altitudes. They go off to somewhere like the Great Rift Valley in Kenya where their bodies become accustomed to low levels of oxygen. They then run like crazy when they return to lower altitudes for their athletic events.

My pacemaker gurus, in their infinite wisdom quickly identified that :-

i) I am not a top-level athlete and
ii) I cannot fly over to Kenya because my wife says the house needs decorating !

So, in a flash of sheer brilliance , they came up with a cunning plan :-

They deprived me of oxygen for over two years by not giving me the correct settings on my PM . This was their version of altitude-training. I ran and ran ,despite being starved of oxygen ,and pushed myself really hard but got so breathless so quickly. It was quite character-building !

.. and then a new PM guru appeared who said "enough is enough" , the oxygen-deprivation experiment must stop ! He had unique qualities such as" listening to me" and looking at my home-made graphs of my heart rate levelling off at 90bpm when I exercise.

He then used language with which I was not familiar e.g. " I've got just the algorhythm for you !! " and he set about changing my settings with an unprecedented level of confidence

To cut a very long story short, the difference is dramatic and , at long last, I am back to my old self. I do believe that living with oxygen-deprivation does make you fitter in its own masochistic way and when they do turn the oxygen back on you feel fantastic !!

.. and flights to Kenya are so expensive !

Cheers

Ian

what results can be gained when the medical folks work with us. Confirms to me that going in with data vs only describing symptoms can help too.

Glad you've stuck with it for so long and gotten great results!
