My Goldfish Behaves Differently Now !

I have a pet goldfish and , since having a PM . it just stares at me. It is quite scary ; I may mention it to my cardiologist. I think it has been talking to patma's cat. I will be grateful for any advice because it is stressing me out !

Hi Ian,

Sorry to hear of your dilema, hopefully Mr. Tat Man can weigh in and give some sound advice.

I've had goldfish, they taste just like chicken

I am overwhelmed by the compassion being shown towards my dear companion, Goldie.

Such sensitive advice is quite touching..... fry it , it will taste just like chicken etc. I hate to think what actions you will recommend for me if ever I develop strange behaviour.

IAN MC.....sorry to Carp On about this.......

...................your little 'Goldie' is bit an 'Amuse Bouche' in the world of gastronomy..

So..

Given that the trifle that is Goldie can , scarcely provide more than a fine munchfull on a bagel or Ryvita..it is all in the preparation and EXECUTION of the dish.

'Goldie' must be involved..I have always been of the opinion that there shuld be a good relationship between food and , what, those millionaire Dentists call..The Buccal Cavity.

Talk to 'Goldie'...establish a relationship...'Goldie' will feel so much better and embrace the final stage of Fish Life..that, at its centre, asks the central philosophical question...Why Am I Here ??..a piscatorial variation of Descartes .."I think , therefore, I am ".."Je pense..sa veux dire que , je suis "

" I exist therefore I will be Eaten"..

Just think..

IAN MC...You...Goldie...Descartes....and a good recipe..might just connect you to the secret of the universe.

chicken?

by ohiolaura - 2013-09-23 09:09:46

I don't see how the precious Goldie can taste like chicken......unless it is a small carp, also in the goldfish family I think, its a tad small, not even chicken nugget size.......Would therefore taste like fish, maybe you would feel better thinking of her not as a fish?
Now I have a small flock of tasty real chickens that we raise here for our own comsumption.I will say they do not circle me,and stare at me,its more me doing that to them, usually as I am feeding and watering the little darlings!
Its just life, survival of the fittest, and we are a bit higher on the food chain, which suites me just fine!
Don't know if animals really know when their time is up.....the chickens think were taking them to the park I think when infact were taking them to well, their final destination, before they meet up with the deep freezer!
Hang in there Goldie, its not all bad!!

Goldie is no more ! R.I.P.

Thank you everyone for your help. I have followed everyone's kind suggestions and ate Goldie for lunch today
.. she was poached and served with a Hollandaise sauce then garnished with a sprig of parsley ....delicious ! ( no more eye-balling me, Goldie ..now you know who's boss ! )

I was going to ask Don to do the evil deed but his methods sound far too bloodthirsty an end for my beloved Goldie so I opted for poaching. I used the water from the goldfish bowl because I didn't want her to be in a strange habitat for her last few minutes.

I was so moved by Laura persuading her chickens that she was taking them to the park that I came up with a better idea. I took Goldie to the cinema last night , she wriggled with excitement when I took her out of the bowl and placed her on the seat next to me !

So thanks again everybody , I couldn't have coped without
your advice ( but I still cant forget the last look that Goldie gave me )

Hi Casper

I thought it was appropriate to have a bottle from your side of the pond, in view of the all the good advice I received..... so , as a tribute to Goldie's distant cousins I had a Pinot Grigio from the Cape Cod Winery.

Weird about your spam filter ; do you think Goldie has come back to haunt us ?

Ian

Cape Cod Winery?

by Casper - 2013-09-24 08:09:01

Greetings Ian,

Pinot Grigio is really the only wine I like, I get teased about that all the time. I never would have imagined something from the east coast, I didn't even think they produced that kind of grape.

No weird spam filter now.

Laura: On the demise of chickens

by donr - 2013-09-24 10:09:07

Once upon a time in a universe far, far away (I think that compared to Ohio that Japan qualifies), I attended a Boy Scout training session that lasted a week. All of us were grown men, running around in short pants, trying to act like boys. Somewhere during the course, we were to prepare a chicken dinner over the campfire. We all thought that was a great idea. Till the food was issued - we were given a live chicken in a crate. Said chicken was white, just like here in the good ol' US of A. Clucked & pecked the earth the same. faced its end w/ the same ignorance of what was about to happen. Well, my patrol was all city slickers who had never had to kill a chicken before, so they were all saying "Not me" to the query as to who (or is it whom?) would preside over the chicken's demise. I don't think a single one of them had even seen a chicken killed, so it was uproarious low comedy as the day went on toward the appointed hour.

When the evening's festivities were over, we all compared notes as to how the chickens were dispatched toward the pot. One patrol had heard that commercially chickens were smothered, so they stuck theirs in a small box & sealed it up. 30 min later, the chicken was still clucking happily & ignorantly away. I cannot recall the ridiculous methods used by others, but came the appointed hour, we were still debating who should do the job of Henry the VIII's headsman. I finally got sick of the bickering & told them that I would do the job, but someone else would get to clean it. I took the chicken & my trusty Boy Scout ax, finely honed to an edge worthy of a straight razor in the hands of Sweeny Todd & went off into a dark corner of the camping area, placed the chicken's head on a log & swung my ax like Paul Bunyan felling a tree. %$#%##@ chicken moved its head at the last second & I buried my ax in the log & it took two hands & a foot to dislodge it. (Someone else held the chicken) Three tries later, I finally hit the chicken's neck& almost severed the thing.

The guy who was supposed to clean the chicken was somewhere in the darkened woods, barfing & crying.

In utter disgust at this sign of cowardice, I ripped the skin off the chicken, taking most of the feathers with it. A little bloody work & it was gutted. Took the beast & threw it on the table in front of the cook & told him it was his turn & went & practically bathed myself to clean off the gory residue.

Next AM one of the training staff wandered through our camp site & commented that it looked like a small war had taken place where I dispatched the chicken - feathers & blood all over the place. Thus ended the saga of a chicken dinner.

Coda: How did it taste? Who knows, we could not cut it, let alone chew it. No one told us that you should let a chicken set over night or it would be tough.

fish before the fall

by LisB - 2013-09-25 12:09:30

Well, reading about your goldfish was very interesting to me. A few moments before I collapsed I was at an aquarium staring at fish; all kinds of fish, electric eels, jelly fish, goldfish, and I even was petting a sting ray. The last thing I remember before losing consciousness was looking at a large fish staring at me. I'd give Goldie away if I were you. It could be that fish are causing us to get PM's.
