Nasal Cauterization

Been having frequent nosebleeds that drip into throat and cause spitting up clotted blood. Before my ENT appointment, I wonder if having the nose cauterized using an electrical method is safe for pacemaker. Anyone have this done? Thanks

Hi phyllis Cauterisation devices use a high frequency electric current which can interfere with pacemakers so definitely let them know beforehand that you have a PM

There are techniques they can use to minimise the current which passes through you, the patient , to help avoid problems or they may avoid electro-cauterisation altogether..

So many people have PMs now, that it won't be a new problem for them !

Best of luck

I have had nosebleeds too. So, I went to an ENT Dr to have my nose cauterised. I agree that you need to disclose make, model, and whatever other info you have. He acted as if it was no big deal. We proceeded with the task and things went well. The nosebleeds have not completely ceased but maybe that's what I should expect being on xarelto.
