Heart beat in ears

Does anyone have what I call a constant hearing of your heart beat in both ears. happens all the time and not just at bedtime. I have had my ICD for 18 months and the heartbeat is starting to drive me over the edge.

Might be like me, that you never listened before and now that you have the heart issue you pay attention to it! Just a thought...

After 20 years of pacing with 4 differant pacemakers I've learned that most everyone can turn that constant heart beat in your hearing on or off only by making your mind conscious by thinking of it. Example. also most people of any age when really exerting physically will notice heart beat in their ears. Any stressfull activity raises your heart beat, so when you 1st have your PM it becomes an agrivation especially when trying to get rest, but you will find with time it will ease. Like, about when you forget you have a PM ! Sometimes I enjoy hearing my low setting of 60 by listenign for it while going to sleep & comparing it with my quartz wall clock which beats in perfect timing with my PM at 60. Having these clocks all around our house I can turn on my sensitive ears on and always check my heart rate in a quiet room.

Ask Your Doctor

Let your doctor know what it happening. You can check with your regular doctor or your cardiologist.

I Googled it for you, and it said that everyone experiences this once in a while, but if it is something that is frequently happening, like anything else that isn't normal, do have it checked out.

It said that sometimes it can be as simple as a build up of fluid in the ear(s), allergies, or hypertention, but sometimes it was carotid arteries issues was causing it. Just to play it safe, check with your doctor.

Good Luck!

Thats how I am, counting the beats at 60 per minute every night. Then I have a panic attack when I sometimes hear my heart skip a beat or do an off beat pattern. I am a very active, no VERY ACTICE person and this thing in my chest has caused me to be a cardiac cripple. I even returned to work in construction. Damn ths thing, don't care anymore, saws-all, power threaters, drills, band saw, man lifts and ladders. Ain't stopping me doing what I always did.
