Information please

Recently my heart went in to Afib, so my cardiologist upped my diltizem to 240mg am and started me on digoxin 135mg pm. which worked in slowing my heart rate down. Yesterday I had a successful cardioversion on the 2nd hit, today I still feel quite tired and heavy in legs my bp is sitting at 111 ova 62 and my pulse is 66, I am just wondering if meds have dropped things too low, or its to be expected to feel like this after yesterdays procedure. Looking forward to your replys.

Expect to be tired

You should not underestimate the physical effects of cardioversion. It is a shock to the system! This is both physical and psychological.

There is no way you are going to have a general anaesthetic, a cardioversion, and the stress associated, and be bouncing around next day, nor should you be.

Don't set targets, recover in your own time. Recovery is not a race.

Your pulse rate is fine. It is unlikely your BP will cause you symptoms at rest.

If your tiredness is not improving over the coming days then you should consider your meds. as a cause.

Drug side effects

Hi Jane,

I took the same combination of drugs following my mini-maze and they just take your energy away. If you can reduce the drugs and stay in rhythm, you will feel better- talk to your doctor about that. Just stopping the drugs puts you at risk to go back into afib, it's a fine line-

Good luck,

EB

for your replies, I have probably got a bit anxious, I think when you have a heart procedure, you become more aware of what is happening with your heart and general health, I will go see GP next week if I still feel this tired, I can't remember feeling like this last time I had cardioversion, which was nearly 3 years ago, I only had 1 hit that time so maybe 2 does make a difference, I am very pale. Selwyn, it is good to know that how I feel is normal after procedure, I had been keeping so well after pm 3 years ago, I almost forget I have a pm.

Kind regards Jane

Pallor and tiredness.

Unless you have had an emergency cardioversion, the norm is to be anti coagulated prior to the cardioversion as there is a risk of thromboembolism ( blood clots).

With anticoagulation there is a risk of bleeding. It is just that you say you are pale, Jane. You should be aware that there may be blood loss (e.g. black bowel motions). Do look. If you are bleeding you need urgent medical help.
