Dual-chamber pacemaker or CRT

Hi MaryAnn,

could it be that you have a single-chamber pacemaker only pacing the ventricle? Then I'd guess that you have some sort of pacemaker syndrome, where the atria and ventricles do not beat synchroneous. This can cause palpitations and other symptoms. Putting in a second, in that case atrial lead can solve the problem.

The other possibility is that you already have a dual-chamber pacemaker, and they want to upgrade it to a so called CRT device, which has an additional lead in the left ventricle. This device re-sychronizes the ventricles, which were beating very much out of sync when only the right side was paced. Usually, this beating out of sync can cause heart failure. But I would not say that palpitations are typical for heart failure. So, my guess on what they are planning to do is the upgrade from a single- to a dual-chamber device, not a CRT.
