Its been a while...

Whilst I check the great site from week to week it's been several months since I posted - alot has happened in that time. I have been saddened to see some of the club's stalwarts are no longer with us, you will know who they are :-(

Personally, I have been doing great, both physically and mentally however events on monday gave me a stark reminder of how quickly things can change. I have just returned from a weeks holiday with the GF, enjoying the sun of southern spain, eating healthy and avoiding lots of wine! I had a few but not excessive!!!! After settling down in bed on Monday evening I was wokened by a terrifiyingly fast heart rate, nausiness and the sweats, i was totally taken aback, I felt as if someone was sitting on me. All i was thinking was STAY CALM, try and relax but after 20 minutes or so I was starting to panic. I put my HR watch on and the readings were between 148-160 and it was then I decided to call for help. The ambulance arrived within 5 minutes and after a brief discussion about my past history (obstructive Cardiomyopathy) I was hooked up to the EKG machine...... for the first time in a long while I was scared - I asked the doctor if I was having a heart attack......... his response was not encouraging as he replied, i'm not sure!! The hr was still 140 plus and I was told I was going to hospital. After some drugs (medallisalm?! forget the name, terrapin?) i was initially taken straight into A & E for the once over and again my EKG was pretty erratic. They said that my BP was high but didnt think it was a HEART ATTACK but would not rule it out. They done cloodtests and after a while told me I was above the normal levels for Schema, apparently normal levels are 0.05 and I was 0.07 - however they would run the test again in 6 hours. Thankfully the pains in my chest were becoming less intermittent and the sickness feeling was starting to go - after some drugs my HR was back to 61 bpm and they told me I was going for chest x rays, interrogation of device and more bloods - I was still freaking out as for long periods no one was talking!! The only comfort at this point was knowing my ICD hadnt fired! I got home later early evening the following day but the ordeal was awful!
After alot of tests they told me they didnt know what caused the episoide. Its so frustrating. They told me the device picked up the tachycardic rythym but again no answers could be given as to why.One doctor said the fast heart rythym may happen everynight in the same fashion when the device does its "capture management" function - has anyone else been told this?! in two years I have had the device i have never experienced this and would appreciate to hear if anyone has been told this? I woke up this morning feeling back to full health, amazing what a day makes!

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
