Hi,
Please advise me if there are any precautions or procedures I should undertake before the operation. I'm planning for elective hysterectomy mid next month. Will it require my pm be turned off?

Ask the anesthesiologist. They don't turn it off, but they usually set it to pace at a steady rate for the duration of the surgery. My understanding is a rep from the pm company is there to monitor the pm whenever we have surgery.
My bff is having the same thing, also the middle of next month. She's oddly excited, after so many years of problems she's looking forward to an end. Hope it goes well for you.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'm just scared of the whole procedure and my heart condition. I also dont think if the meditronic rep will be available here just for 'me'.

They meet patients in the hospital all the time! Just about every time I've been in the ER, one of my reps has appeared and they've come to the office just for me when it wasn't a clinic day more times than I can count. Make sure you meet with the anesthesiologist in advance so there are no surprises the day of surgery. It's not a big deal, but they do have to make arrangements. People with pm's have other surgery all the time, they know how to handle it.

to make the arrangements for the rep. Then also mention it to the Anesthesiologist when you meet.
You also want to make sure the rep will use the programming for your device and not just use a magnet.
I had to have one about 10 years ago due to benign fibroid tumors that just would not behave. It interfered with daily living. Hope you feel better soon.
I am going to send you a pm.
