Just a quick check in. Hope everybody is doing good.
Myself, nothing new other then it is time for winter. It has been so hot here. Way to early for the heat we are getting this time of the year. It is to the point that if I try to do something outside, I have to quit by 8am. The heat knocks the breath out of me very quick.
The good news is that they are now setting hunting dates for this up coming duck season. Our Teal season which starts in mid September to the end of that month. What they did is raise our daily limit to 6 birds. This has the old pumper pumping. Always need something to look for in the future. Almost like a kid on Christmas Morning. LOL
Our family reunion is still on for July 14. I'm expecting well over 75 family members to make it. This will be just brothers and sisters, there kids and grandkids. Oh, there were 9 kids in my family, but our oldest brother passed away at 40 years old.
It has been many years that we had a get together. Katrina had spread out our families across the country from NY to Washington State. It will be nice to see all.
Health wise, I have been putting on some good body weight , but by doing that, it has slowed me down somewhat. Next doctors appointment is July 8. I have a wedding to go to in New Orleans on the 7th, so our plans are to just stay there overnight. Mean time, I trying to get a appointment thru the VA with a heart transplant doctor. I really need an outside opinion at this point really bad. Also, we been looking at out of state transplant centers. My family and I are getting a feeling that the transplant team I been using is blowing smoke up my backside. We are really thinking they gave up all hope for me. Myself, I think they take the best chance people for a transplant only to keep up there number rating. So, when I go for my next appointment, it will be with the head man of all doctors there and I will flat out ask/tell him what I think is going on.
Take care and God bless,
Paul

Sounds like youre feeling better, all the way around.Thats great!
Things to look forward to,plans made, all good.
The heat I will agree with you on,is tough, for everyone.Up here in Ohio, its been in the upper 80's and to 90 for almost a week, and we have the humidity too,dew point at 70,which is like down south, tropical.I prefer 80,no humidity, but we don't get too much of that.
Better than snow by far, just tough to get outside things done, when youre soaked from sweat, now we have a lot of rain, and my garden is partially under water, which isn't good.
Look forward to duck season, and give them what you must when you have youre appts! Have to be your own advocate, and be persistant.
Im glad you sound better, keep up the good fight Paul!

sounds like you are doing better... always good to hear that...you said your family was drastically displaced from Katrina... are you originally from Nawlins? just curious, cause I grew up down there...had to evacuate my mom & dad after they spent about a week in Charity Hospital...Dad was on oxygen, and was worried about power outages, so they went to the hospital near their home, and were told to go to the Superdome, where provisions were being set up for people with special needs... after several trips between the dome & hospital, they finally kept them in Charity Hospital.
I don't think either of them would have survived the Superdome fiasco...
Eventually, they were transported from the hospital on some huge tractor- trailer to the airport, where they flew to Houston. I went and rescued them... brought them back here ... lived with me for 4 months before they could return home... forrtunately, no damage to their house...
anyway, just wanted to say hi, say that its great you are feeling better, and just wanted to ask if you are also from The Big Easy...
take care ... enjoy what you have... kill some ducks lol

Yes, I was born and raised in New Orleans. Once I went into the service, I knew then that I didn't want to live in a big city. Besides that, I met my wife to be in a small town that my Mom grew up in just north of Baton Rouge.
Sorry to hear that your Mom and Dad had to go thru that hell. At the time, I had went down with one of my boats to help pick people off there houses. Just unreal. Last time New Orleans got flooded, hurricane Betsy hit. Flooding was not nearly as bad. Our house was in Gentilly Woods. Only got about 1' of water inside the house at the time. Katrina put over 12' of water there.
Yes, over all, I have been feeling a bit better. I been having 50/50 good days which has been a lot better. As to why? I'm not going to guess, but I thank God for them.
Way to go, Paul!

Hi! Paul, With your faith and determination, you are showing your transplant team you are not easily discouraged. If you do not feel you have support there, then, by all means go elsewhere and soon. It is great your family has a special time coming shortly for all of you. Is there a giant low country boil planned for all? I still remember the first time my hubby came home with ducks for me to cook. I was clueless as to what to do. My relationship with ducks had always been feeding them at a park. I took a crash course from some cookbooks and proceeded though I was uncomfortable with the new relationship. Anyway, nice to know you have gained some needed weight and are making plans. Take care. Hopeful Heart
Glad to hear

funny you should mention Betsy... and boats...
After Betsy, a friend and I took boats into the French Quarter area. I was headed for a school where people were stranded. They were all on the top floor, which was still dry... I actually rescued an old man from his rooftop. He saw me coming toward him, and he just jumped in and swam toward me...I remember paddling down Roya St, and looking down into the water to see the street sign. I saw people walking out of their houses carrying belongings over their heads...crazy time...I actually saw a car underwater, standing upright, and I could read the license plate... very eerie...
I left Nawlins in 1975 .. moved to San Francisco...moved to NC in 1990...
still get down to Nawlins ocassionally... it's a fun city, but I'd never live there again...
hey... glad to hear you're doing better...
just remember... you can't keep us Cajuns down for long... :)
take care...
