Just a update. Wednesday, my daughter got on the phone with the transplant group doctors. Herself, she is a DVM and understands what is going on. Anyway, they meet every morning as a team and yesterday, they did discuss my case.
Well yesterday afternoon, I got a call from the team nurse. Come next Monday, I have to go to New Orleans. The doctors want to discuss putting me back on dobutemine. They will get me back on it, but there are some BUTS. That is what the nurse was telling me. I'm sure it has something to do with home bound nurses coming in a couple days a week. That, and I'm sure they will want me to go on hospice care. I fine with nurses coming in, but not willing to go on hospice care! Once on hospice care, that would be throwing in the towel.
So, till next Monday, I will try to get out and I will be hitting a friends pool maybe tomorrow, if I'm up to it. I been dying to go for a swim. Something I haven't done in over three years. If and when they put a new hickman in, I will not be able to swim or take a shower. Can't get the area wet.
On a side note. My house AC broke a couple days ago. Been hitting in the mid 80;s here. The ac guy came in and tried to fix it, but the inside unit has to be replaced. Hope that comes in today. Getting hot is not helping me.
Take care and God Bless,
Paul

Angrysparrow, In my case, hospice care would be the end of all treatments towards getting a heart transplant. Here, once one goes into hospice care, one doesn't see cardo doctors, just a GP doctor for life ending treatments.
If I did go that way, that would be throwing in the towel. Quitting/giving up is not in my creed. After all, I was a US Marine at one time in my life. Well, once a Marine, always a Marine for life.
Hope everybody has a great day,
Paul

l can understand your feelings towards going into a hospice, even though l have heard they are wonderful places to go l think YOU know yourself when/if its time.
l know l don't know you well but from your posts you are nowhere near that point, you have way too much fight left, keep on as you are & who knows what the future will bring? in the mean time enjoy your family & friends & go & have a swim :-)

Hospice in TEXAS ~ ~ ~

PAUL, I went to your profile page and it is not filled out as to where you live and/or your age. Sounds like you are in a good mind, fairly healthy if you want to go swimming and a real fighter. Does not sound like you are a quiiter and/or near ready to throw your towel in.
Hospice in Central TEXAS means, once Hospice has been assigned, you are not allowed to be on any meds, home health care, nor rec. any o/s services re: your condition. I know this because in 2003, my Husband of 41 years was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (brain cancer). 'Blastomas' are fatal, he still had the choice of radiation and chemo to delay his fate. He chose the radiation for 9 weeks and the chemo pills. Within 4 months, they were going to assign Hospice to my Husband, but he went into a coma and after being released from a hospital, was released to the Austin Hospice, a non-profit Hospice. Hospice was a God send for the Family at this point. From experience, they did not allow meds, feeding tubes, etc. at that point.
PLS. keep us Posted on your future in enjoying your Family, your Friends and the swimming. Thoughts and Prayers are with you and your Families.
Thinking of you,
Carolyn G. in TEXAS ~ ~ ~

Hi! Paul, It is great you have family support. Step by step you are staying strong and you and your family are keeping close track of your treatment. I know you weigh your decisions wisely. I hope next Monday gives you a positive treatment and care plan. Hope the AC is up and going soon. It is in the 80's here (AL) also. I think the winter like temps that kept popping up are finally really gone. Take care. Hopeful Heart
