Rate response and biking

Thanks Inga and Jerry.
I have a Boston Scientific PM Ingenio K173 for Brady and Chronotropic Incompetence. On my device report it states Accelerometer: On. Activity threshold medium. Reaction time 30 sec. Recovery time 2 min. Response factor 8. Minute Ventilation sensor: On . Response factor: 3 . I see some of these settings are nominal settings.
Inga - I will try to your method of activating accelerometer via sternum. Question: You said you could raise your HR to the Max quite rapidly - how do you measure it? I need a dependable device. It would really help me understand how effective these techniques are on me. I do need tweaking. Thanks both for your helpful advice.

Heart rate monitor

Hi!

I use a Polar FT7 heart rate monitor.

Maybe your sensor combination needs tweaking. This is special in Boston Scientific pacers that you can program accelerometer and minute ventilation individually, and both sensors offering a range of parameters than can be adjusted. I guess that can be tricky to optimize.

HR Monitor

by JerryG - 2014-06-16 06:06:38

Hi Jennie

I used a Polar FT7 until it packed up. I have had wonderful service from my Garmin navigational equipment so I replaced the Polar FT7 with a Garmin FR70. Big mistake; there is a problem in communication between the chest strap and the monitor caused by unknown interference from the PM which my technical contacts at Garmin tell me cannot be remedied.

I have just imported a Mio Alpha from the US at some cost (it isn't normally available here in South Africa). I guess our HR monitor market isn't big enough for the sports supply guys to import it and carry it on their shelves as it is expensive, even in the US.

The Mio Alpha uses different technology (actually patented by Philips) to read your HR and does not have a chest strap; a 'watch' on your wrist only. This is working very well for me. One disadvantage is that it doesn't store more than one workout but it uses Bluetooth Smart to communicate with my Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone which has the Adidas MiCoach app on it to store my workout data.

I enjoy being able to read my heart rate accurately without a chest strap or having to manually take my pulse while on the treadmill!

Bushveld greetings

Jerry

Mio Alpha - strong battery

by Minnesota - 2014-06-16 10:06:36

Thanks Inga and Jerry. I bought and returned the Mio several months ago. I read the manual and at the end of it I believe there might have been a warning about the strong magnet in device. It worried me so I returned it. I loved the idea of a HR monitor with no strap. But I didn't want to worry about accidentally bringing wrist to chest and affecting my PM. Jerry- its probably totally safe. But just take a look at end of manual. To be sure. Thanks again.
