Question: If you have had a slow hear beat your whole life then get a pacemaker and that keeps it around 70 vs 50 could that wear your heart out over time ?

Only if you subscribe to the theory that your heart only has a certain number of beats in its lifetime.

Currently medical doctors theorize there is no medical reason the human body can't live up to the age of 120 years. Don't know how many heartbeats that would be for that long of a time but it would be in the millions.

Better way to look at it is a PM will help your heart beat, you'll live longer and better than if you didn't have a PM.

There is something called tachycardia induced cardiomyopathy, which I was at risk for when I was in permanent tachycardia. The good news: It only happens when your heart beats non-stop (24/7) at much more than 100bpm for many years. Your 70bpm are within the normal range, no tachycardia.

I'm with knot guy re your question
But, if you have always had a HB around 50 is there a reason why they put it at 70? If not ask them to lower it if it gives concerns other than whether your heart will wear out.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
