Yesterday I had my 1st appt at the Heart Transplant clinic. I got to meet the whole transplant team. I met with one of the surgeons, I had already met with the other transplant surgeon, and he came to the same conclusion my doc and the other surgeon did. They have tried everything possible on me and the only thing left is a heart transplant. They will be setting up appt's for the rest of the tests needed to be listed. I've already had 6 of the 19 tests in the evaluation process.
I didn't realize how nervous I was about this appt until we got home and I noticed my face was all broken out! :) I didn't get much sleep last night either, with all the info running thru my head.
I have to say that both my husband and I are relieved to have that first "transplant appt" over with. On with my journey! :)

I really appreciate all the support.
I got a call from the transplant clinic today and I am scheduled to have 20 tubes of blood taken on Tuesday, CT scan and another Dr. appt on Wednesday, and the following Friday, I have a PM check in the am, a transplant class and appt with the transplant social worker in the afternoon.
All kinds of fun! :)

Told you they want blood and more blood. LOL I think they just about drained me.
Once you get thru all the test, the waiting game starts. I'm still listed as 1B. Still go in at least once a month for check ups and twice a month for blood work. They keep an eye on your blood count big time.
Good thing is that if you start having any trouble, there is a nurse/doctor always on call to help you out.
Insurance. Before you get listed and if you are medicare, get a plan "F" to help you out. If not, nobody will pick you up till 2014. Also, have plan "A" and plan "B". Plan "B" will be the one that pays for rejection drugs, but leaving you with a 20% copayment. That is when plan "F" kicks in to pick up that 20% cost out of pocket expence.
Prays are sent. You will be going down a long road and will need family support.
Take care, Paul

Best wishes for you! I can't imagine, I think any of us would be crazy nervous before that appointment. I hope you are feeling better about it now. Go take a nap!
