Hi Everyone,
thanks to all of you who posted on my comment about how the pacemaker clinic techs were sending me to a psycologist because I had said I still have pain in the pm site after 8 months.
I had my appointment on Monday. the first question he asked was why was I here. I answered honestly. "Because I was told to come" & then I told him about the pain I'm experiencing.
He tried to delve into my personal life by asking about siblings, parents etc. Perhaps he was trying to dig up any stresses I may have maybe to blame stress for the pain.
Aparently, I'm to think the pain away.

Katherine.... I am a retired marriage, family, child specialist....NOT a psychiatrist, nor psychologist... that said, I think it is just plain insulting that your docs would send you for mental health evaluation to a psychiatrist...it appears to be a pattern with many cardiologists to down play the symptoms of women... including women with full blown heart attack in process being evaluated as anxious & sent home! I have a cord that is caught in the pacemaker placement, a tendon or ligament, not sure.... there is no pain, but it stands out... my new EP commented that he would fix that on friday with the new placement.... so... things can go wrong in the "simple" procedure of pacemaker implanting....,mine sticks out so far it looks like my 3rd boob!! that said... (stop laughing! ) I would suggest that you get a second opinion....
most pain is due to a physical cause... not how you wre treated as a child... that can cause emotional pain and even post traumatic reactions but not pain in a surgical site... if it were psychological pain, you would have had it for years before implant, not after.... IMHO!!!
You know you're wired when...
Your kids call you Cyborg.

...classical Freudian shrink! Was this guy a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist? There is a BIG difference.
A psychiatrist is an MD who goes on to specialize in mental illnesses.
A psychologist is a person w/ a PhD in psychology, which means they have studied human behavior extensively.
I'll go out on a limb w/ my owl buddies & between us swooping over the fields & catching mice will say that what you need is a darned good MD who is interested in psychosomatic issues. These are issues that include the interaction between the mind (psycho) & body (Soma).
Your pain is REAL (Really!), whether it comes from mind or body, but you need someone who can sort out the difference - starting w/ & ruling out , the physical pain.
Sparrow hit the nail directly on the point (That's because it was a nail designed to be driven into the ceiling & she had it on the floor) when she wrote her last para about weak women & MD's.
Before swooping down to catch my next mouse, I'll go further out on the limb & second Sparrows. idea that your cardio hasn't the foggiest idea what making you hurt & this is his way of getting rid of you & shoving you off on a shrink who will try to convince you that the relationship between you & Mom was defective in some way that will require months of meaningless drivel & keep you out of your cardio's hair.
Katherine, there IS, very definitely, a mental component to pain. If there were not, it could not be ameliorated via hypnosis. What you need is someone who can sort out what causes you physical component, where your physical component ends & the mental component begins.
