Pacemaker Free For Now

malltura here: I had a history of 5 years of A-fib which became permanent. Prior to that they implanted a St Jude Algorithmic pacer to help me.

In August I underwent an 8 hour heart ablation procedure. Now in November I am in NSR with a normal at rest pulse of 70 with a BP of 110 over 70 at age 70.

I take no meds or blood thinners now and life is very good compared to the last terrible 5 A-fib years. I am back to normal! I think I am one of the very lucky ones as I have posted here previously.

My pacer is no longer being used and my cardiologist uses it every 6 months to only review my heart history.

So I was told to leave it in forever as the Battery has 8 years left on it. Has anyone had this type of pacemaker experience where it kept me alive for 3 years and now since the successful ablation it is just a backup in my chest.

I just wanted to present a positive post to let all the folks know that ablations do work and life does get better for some of us!

My ablation hospital stay was only 24 hours and I went home.

24 hours later I was rushed to ER. Seems I had contracted bacterial pneumonia, a urinary tract infection and infectious indocarditis while in the short stay at the hospital. I almost died and after a week in the hospital on antibiotics 24/7 I was sent home on home care where I had a Pitt line in my arm and took in antibiotics 3 times a day for 7 weeks and was finally disease free! My math showed about 30 gallons of antibiotics went into my blood stream to save me!

The Operation was a success but the patient almost died!

Just wanted to know if anyone has had a situation like this after an ablation procedure? My infectious disease doctor said I got a bad cath and the breathing tube was left in too long (8 hours)?

Lucky to be alive and healthy completely now at 70. I was told that most my age don't make it with 3 blood borne diseases at the same time.
JEM or malltura is staying out of the hospitals for now and swimming and walking daily enjoying my new life! See, good thing do happen in the pacemaker club!

Let me know if I am lucky or what?

Lucky to have a positive ablation result, lucky to be PM free and lucky to be alive after your experience. I hope you make it to 100 at least and all of it in good health. Mike

You know you're wired when...

You play MP3 files on your pacer.

One week has passed and I must admit that each day I feel a little stronger.
