Hi all
Thank you to all who replied to my post just over a week ago about hubby being unwell. Apologies for not updating sooner but it has been crazy my end.
Hubby refused to go to A&E. After 13 hours of the irregular rhythm on the day I posted, his rhythm suddenly corrected back to a normal rhythm.
However, all last week he had further episodes.
I spoke to a Dr at the hospital I work at (& hubby works there too) & she said it does sound like AF but without doing an ECG or Holter tape at the time of his symptoms, it cannot be diagnosed for certain. I agree.
So I've been trying to persuade hubby to at least see our GP (who is excellent) but so far he has not agreed. I think partly through fear of what they might find, partly through being in denial....yes, he is scared.
On a positive note though, our daughter (age 23) has been having heart rhythm problems for almost 2 years....fast palpitations, blackouts, extreme exhaustion....she too has been too scared to seek help. She said it was because she'd seen me go through 4 arrhythmias, 3 ablations, the PM...she is scared she'll end up the same. I spoke to my EP about her last year, as he specialises in inherited arrhythmias, & he is more than happy to see her but she would need to be referred by our GP.She has finally made an appointment to see our GP about it next Monday & asked me to go with her! This has come about because of hubby (her dad) now having rhythm problems & she realises she really does need to be investigated.
Our son (age 20) has also been having rhythm problems (slow heart rate making him feel terrible) for about 3 years & he too refuses to see our GP! For the same reasons as our daughter. Again my EP has said he would be happy to see our son etc but son still refuses. He admits he is scared.
3 weeks ago our son found a lump in his right testicle! Yes, it really has been crazy here lately!! He DID go & see the GP about this lump (thankfully). It was a cyst & a 2 week course of very strong antibiotics sorted things out.
Hubby has been working 7 days a week for almost a year & I think a combination of exhaustion from that plus the worry of our son finding a lump in his testicle 3 weeks ago (I worked in a Cancer hospital for 32 years so yes, I too was scared about this lump).....I wonder if all this has brought hubby's abnormal rhythm on. I know he worries about me all the time, with all my heart problems spanning back to 2000, he is scared of being ill himself.
Anyway, sorry if all that is a bit jumbled but I've written this quickly, while I've got some time on the computer. Since working full time myself (& work is very busy at the moment, so I too am exhausted)...I don't get much free time to get on my computer.
Thank you for all your kind messages, including the private messages I received. Sorry I couldn't reply sooner.
Thanks & best wishes
Janey

Hi Janey
I can understand how your family is scared, BUT with all the modern advances in medicine, particularly in treatment of arrhythmia's, please tell your family there is nothing to be scared of. Yes I have had 2 ablations, a heart attack and a pm. I am fine, and if I did not seek help I might not be here today. The cardio (2 of them) then my cardio /EP knew exactly what to do, and did it. My life heart wise is fine.
Tell your family there is more danger in Not being treated.
How can we all make Hubby understand?
All the best with him,
Alma Annie

Wow ! Your's is a hearty family ! You mention "inherited arrythmias " . I knew that there is a genetic component but what living proof your family is of that !
I know how busy you are, Janey, but you really should make it top priority to talk all members of your family into getting medical attention ; easier said than done I guess but ,as you know, arrythmias CAN be treated !
I hope that you're enjoying your new ( ish) job even though you seem to be having to work pretty hard.
Best Wishes
Ian
