Hi all
I have VERY exciting news for you all......I've just heard that I got the job I applied for at our local hospital. Wow, I am SO pleased!!
I applied to join the Staffbank (bank staff, so you work when needed) a few weeks ago.....they want people for admin roles within the hospital. On the "bank" you can choose the admin jobs you want, some last a week, some a month, some several months. You don't get holiday pay or sick pay, but the salary is enhanced to reflect this. When one job ends, you can take on another. It is very flexible.
My hubby joined the Staffbank last month, as a domestic. So now we will be working in the same place (but different hours).
It is quite a long recruitment process. Last week I had to complete 6 online tests (word, excel, spelling & grammer, filing, data entry & speed typing)...to get through to the interview stage. Now that I've been offered the job, they said it will take 4-6 weeks for references, CRB check, Occ Health, online training courses etc. That's fine, I've got a busy time in June so I'm happy to start in 6 weeks or so.
I did discuss the job with my EP when I saw him in clinic last week & he is very happy for me to go ahead & return to work. He also said he would write any letters, if needed. I also discussed with the Head of Pacing & my arrythmia nurse.
I took early retirement (age 50) last year, under the NHS pension scheme, due to all my cardiac symptoms. It is fantastic that I feel well enough & recovered enough now to return to work.
Previously I worked in another NHS hospital, for 32 years! I'm really pleased I have this chance to work in a different NHS hospital but, at the same time, go back to doing a job I've enjoyed all my life. I love helping patients.
My daughter is waiting to hear if she has got a new job today too!
Wow, such amazing news. And it's our Silver wedding anniversary (25 years) in June, so lots of exciting things coming up.
SueUK......you can uncross your fingers now!! Thank you for keeping them crossed for SO long!!
Best wishes
Janey

Not quite a bank....
by Janey L - 2013-05-24 02:05:19
Hi Ian
Sadly it's not a bank I'll be working for as such. They call it "bank" staff as the bank staff work in departments when needed eg nurses at weekends. The "bank" consists of various NHS staff. So I'll be covering admin jobs say on reception desks in out-patients, filing in medical records etc. Hubby covers domestic work on wards at weekends & cleans Dr's offices in the evenings during the week.
It seems that a lot of NHS hospitals are developing these "bank" departments as a way of not having to take on agency staff to cover staff shortages. It makes perfect sense. Agency staff are paid such a high rate (although maybe a lot goes to the actual agency) whereas bank staff are paid less than agency.
I like the idea of the flexibility of being able to choose which admin jobs I want to take on & for how long eg weeks or months. The hours hubby works really suit him & he loves it there. He had never worked for the NHS before but really enjoys it.
My old hospital kept on threatening to sack me, despite 32 years service, because of my arrhythmias & cardiac condition.....which is why I left there in the end. Whereas this hospital has been really keen to take me on right from the start....so I'm looking forward to working for a hospital that appreciates its staff.
Wow....it's still sinking in that I got the job!!
Best wishes

.....................great news...heaven knows, the employment situation in the UK is far from flush.
And talking about 'flush'...that IAN MC has got a cheek trying to tap you up for a Fiver !
Between us...shhhh...no one else is to know this....
I know as a fact that he lives in a Penthouse in Buckinghamshire..drives a Bentley and thinks nothing of having Roast Swan biked in from Harrods for a mid-week snack..often washed down with a '47 Cheval Blanc.
"Lend me a fiver, indeed " !!
Congrats again.
Tattoo Man ..from the same wind swept, rainy landmass called the United Kingdom...Yeah..United by crap weather for a Bank Holiday !!
Congrats Janey

How do you think I bought the Bentley ?....the odd fiver here, the odd tenner there, all extracted from unsuspecting ladies in the PM club ; it all adds up !
Did you notice how Janey completely ignored my begging letter ; do you think I 'll have better luck with the lady in Shropshire , she 's got a shed-load of cash apparently !
Cheers

Bank
by Zia - 2013-05-24 05:05:21
It sounds like what the NHS calls a bank is what hospitals here in the US would call a pool. I think I'd prefer a bank, pools can house sharks! My job is similar in that I only work when somebody wants time off or the work piles up. I love it because I can always be unavailable when I want off.
So all the best to you, Janey. It's going to be great.

Ian & Tattoo Man
You two are making me laugh here in my house in Carshalton (yes, it is pouring with rain here too!). I did chuckle reading Tattoo Man's reply earlier & now your latest one too Ian. I wish I had enough fiver's to give you one each!
Best wishes

Hi. Thank you all SO much for all your wonderful comments/replies....it means a lot. You are all great friends of mine on here & it's great that we can share both good news & bad news on here.....we're all in it together.
SueUK.....I hope your poor fingers are feeling a bit better today (you did make me chuckle with your boss & written warning LOL). Yes, £4.99 sounds like a great bargain, especially with what your poor fingers have gone through!
Now....even better news would be to hear that donr is ok, I am very worried about him & I know everyone else is too. Let's all hope & pray he is ok & that we hear some news from him soon, bless him.
Best wishes

Well done Janey, l thought you would get it but you never know do you? l am so pleased that everything is looking good for you & your family, news like this gives us all a "Boost".
I managed to drag myself off to work yesterday but couldn't do much because my fingers were crossed all the time much to the annoyance of my boss but the written warning was worth it cos you got the job !!!
SO because of that my fingers are all mangled & deformed & l think a little bit of compensation for the pain & discomfort??? Now l know the "Dastardly Duo" wanted a fiver off you but l am prepared to deal at £4.99................Bargain eh?
Have a fun weekend & enjoy the sun cos l think it disappears again Monday :-)

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
Well done Janey

We all knew that you would get it ! I hope the Staffbank gives you one of those big bankers ' bonuses that we keep reading about. You couldn't lend me a fiver by any chance ?
