Hi All
Thank you SO much for all your fast replies to my urgent post yesterday. I really appreciate all your help, advice & support.
By the time I went to bed last night I'd made my decision.."I need to be referred to my cardiac hospital so that I'm in the right place if I need gynae surgery, with my PM (& being PM dependent)".
I saw the female GP this morning at our GP surgery. What a lovely Dr. She was so nice, very calm & soft voice, young-ish, very knowledgable & up-to-date. An excellent bedside manner. I hadn't seen her before, she is working at the surgery for a year. She has recently qualified as a GP.
I told her my problem about ?prolapse, described symptoms etc. I told her my biggest concern is my PM & being PM dependent, IF I need surgery I'd like to be in my cardiac hospital. She said "Absolutely, I totally agree with you. It's no problem, I will refer you directly to a gynae Dr there". I was SO relieved to hear that!! I didn't have to explain my reasons or anything, she knew it was the right thing to do.
She did the examination & I do indeed have a uterine prolapse. My uterus has moved downwards & forwards, so it is pressing on my bladder (which explains some bladder symptoms I've been getting).
As I'd done lots of research last night on prolapses & treatment, not only was she really impressed at my knowledge on the subject, we also had a useful discussion about treatment options.
She actually started tying the referral letter to the cardiac hospital as I was leaving the room. I was very impressed at her efficiency & speed at sorting things out.
I call it my cardiac hospital, but it is a big London teaching hospital which covers everything. It is our next nearest hospital, after our local hospital, & within our catchment area. Our local hospital is one mile away & the cardiac hospital is 4 miles away....St George's Hospital.
I am VERY relieved to be going to the right hospital. She said I might have to wait a bit (6-8 weeks) for a gynae appt, as it is a big hospital & sees lots of patients. That's fine, I don't mind waiting.....just glad to be going there.
Fortunately I'm due to see the Head of Pacing in 2 weeks & my EP in 3 weeks, so I can let them know about all this & ask about PM's & surgery etc.
The GP thinks my prolapse is beyond basic treatment & more likely to need some sort of op BUT she said the gynae Dr will discuss all my options with me.
Not good about the prolapse, but I suspected that was going to be the diagnosis so by this morning I was prepared for it. It is a very good outcome that I'm being referred to the cardiac hospital so if I do need an op, I know my cardiac team is around.
Thank you again for all your help & support, I really appreciate it. You're all great!
Best wishes
Janey
